FATHER'S TWO CENTS WORTH September is here, school has started, the parking lot is in fast action, and I am planning to take a couple of days fishing with my brother in Kentucky. I leave today, Sunday, and will be back on Tuesday. Hopefully, the weather will be great, the fish will be biting, and all of us, my brother included, will have a good time. Ed is 87 years old now, or young, depending on which way you want to look at him. We are not going to have too many more good years together, be it his health, or mine. So, we make the best of it as we can. Our minds may be still young, but our bodies tell us that we are getting older. Next Sunday, we will have our
music festival here at church, as part of our Sesquicentennial celebration. It Today, our Parish School of Religion (PSR) begins for this year. Classes are held in our school, starting at 9:00 A.M. and dismissing at 10:l5 A.M. In this way, the parent and student can attend the 8:00 AM Mass, and the student stays for PSR, or the student comes for PSR, and then joins their parent (s) for the 10:30 Mass. I really wish that it would happen that way always. Parental example is the best leader in the realm of religion. However, if it is not important for the parents to go to Mass, and to pray openly in front of their children, the children will get the wrong signal, and may become rebellious toward going to Mass, praying, or practicing their Catholic faith. This is true for all of our parents, whether they have their children in Holy Childhood School, or not. Children learn first and strongest from their parents! Many thanks to all those who have volunteered to help at our school and in the PSR program as teachers and helpers Everyone of us has been blessed by God with many gifts and talents to be used for the good of the Body of Christ—all of God’s people. Stewardship helps us to share these gifts with one another, and to enjoy the gifts of one another, and to help, and be helped, by one another. This is what we call teamwork! We can also call it Christ living in each one of us. Thank you for being God’s instruments! As you can well see, the front parking lot is coming together and taking shape. As I write this column, they hope to pour the concrete for the curb, sidewalk and gutter this week. There are many parts that still have to come together, such as another light column on the Main Street side of the lot, and underground wiring for future additions, besides the major jobs of driveways, and the island that will be part of the Main Street entrance. Then comes the “green space”, the “black-top” parking lot, stripping, ornamental fence, and some landscaping. We want it to look nice and to enhance the appearance of our church. We will need your help in the future in preserving it as an asset to our church. As the days pass, and the weeks roll by, we quickly approach the end of our anniversary celebrations. Pray that all goes well, and that our parish grows in faith, hope, and charity. We are a "pilgrim people", on our way to eternity—to heaven. Live your faith!
COME CELEBRATE! The different music ministries of Holy Childhood have agreed to help make the sesquicentennial year even more special by holding a "CELEBRATION OF CHRISTIAN MUSIC". Come hear the various musical groups and individuals who help make our Masses so beautiful perform music for us that may be different from what we normally hear in church, but is still "Christ-centered". This special performance will be held on September 16th at 6:30 PM in the church and should last about an hour. There will be a light reception following in the parish center. Don't miss this event! Come, relax, listen, enjoy. DINNER AUCTION The Dinner Auction has been a tremendous asset to Holy Childhood School. Mark your calendars for October 13th. We need you! EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
"Could you not then watch one hour with me?" "If we do not allow anyone, not even Jesus, to console us, then we feel hopeless. We give up & our hope leaves us. If we go to Him and say, God, I am hopeless, this situation is hopeless, we free ourselves because we allow God to carry the burden. If we carry with us something that seems too heavy, too burdensome, then we can be sure we are carrying something God does not want us to carry." (Hope for the Journey, Fr. Jack Spadling). Visit our Lord in Eucharistic Adoration every Tuesday following the 8 AM Mass until 7 PM, and on Saturday from 9-10 AM. If you would like to commit to a specific hour to pray on Tuesdays, please call Mary Ellen Mueller at 566-9529.
