FATHER'S TWO CENTS WORTH This weekend, on Saturday evening, we celebrate our parish school with another Dinner Auction. It is a fund raiser, and is also a “fun” raiser. Many people from outside our parish, as well as parishioners, come to this special dinner-auction to support our parish school. Bargains do happen, but for the most part, it is a time, especially during the oral auction, to help Holy Childhood School fulfill its commitment to the best religious and quality education that it can give to its students. The parish is grateful to all who worked so hard to make it a success—the planners, the set-up people, the contributors of items to be auctioned, the many people who come to make it successful by their bidding; and to the “clean-up” crew who work afterwards—to all of you, God bless you and thank you.! Our “Life-Chain” in Mascoutah had a nice turn-out of parishioners. I believe that we counted 44 persons who stood the hour in prayer as witness against abortion. It was a showing of faith in God’s rule over life from conception to death. We thank Jerry and Sally Mueller for arranging this event in Mascoutah. Next year, we hope to have many more parishioners, as well as members of other churches involved. This weekend on Sunday morning, we will have our enrollment ceremony for our Confirmation class at the 10:30 Mass. This is an important sacrament in the lives of our young people, as well as for all of us adults. The Holy Spirit comes in a special way to help us live our lives in such a way, as to witness Christ’s presence and goodness in our lives. It must be an on-going commitment to God, as we would want His commitment to be eternal. When was the last time you thought of your Confirmation and how it has affected your life? Is it still working in you, or been forgotten? Our mission begins this week. I hope that all of us want to become “more alive” in the spirit. God wants to help us! However, we have to be awake to the many ways He touches our lives, opens the door to our souls to let Him fill us with His love. None of us has died, or made it to heaven, yet. As much as we are concerned about our material and physical well being in retirement, we should be more concerned about our spiritual well-being in heaven. Come, and grow in the love of God! Next Sunday, we will have a blessing for all who are in the Small Christian Communities program. This will be done at each Mass, so that all involved can receive this special help to grow and share in their groups the gifts that God has poured out on them. May all of you involved in this program find great peace and joy in the Lord and one another. Our parking lot in front of church has been paved, and looks great! We have to keep trucks, busses, and trailers off of it, since it was not built for such weight. We also want to keep it as an attraction and enhancement to our church. If you see something amiss, and you can fix it, please do so. It belongs to all of the parishioners!
