FATHER'S TWO-CENTS WORTH

I know!  I missed last week because I was away.  However, I will make my comments short, since I am writing this way before I even went to Iowa.

This week is Catholic School’s Week, and is a very important week in our parish life.  Our Holy Childhood School is a very good school and shows its worth in the many students who have graduated from it.  I can’t say that all were stars;  however, many went on to excel in high school and from there to college.  Many others excel in various other ways, such as being good Catholics, good parents, and good workers.  Our school provides the foundation for the student’s future life, both here and into eternity.  For many, it remains as a foundation and a frame-work.  For others, it goes further and is “fleshed out” in various ways of stewardship to church, family, and community.  What is so important is that our school tries to give a good education with high Catholic values.  It does that! How it is received and developed depends on the student, the receiver, and the student’s family and peers.  However, if we do not plant the seeds, the plants, or trees, will not get a start.  Our school—faculty and staff, work hard to give their best for all of our students.  Their work is a vocation—not merely a job.  We thank them for their dedication, their efforts, and their love of the students.  Send them a “thank-you” note this week, and assure them of your support.  As pastor, I sincerely thank our principal and all of the teachers, and offer prayers for them every day.  May God bless them!  May God bless all who support our school personally and through the parish!

In line with this, I also want to thank all of our PSR teachers who give so generously of their time and talents to enlighten our students who do not attend Holy Childhood School.  So often, theirs is a thankless task because they work to accomplish in one period a week what takes place over five periods a week in HC School.  They depend heavily on the support and cooperation of the parents and the family, and do an excellent job.  They too, need our prayers and appreciation of the parish as they strive to “spread the good news," and prepare our children for their lives in the world, and into eternity.  May God bless every one of them!  They are doing us a service and we need to let them know that we appreciate all that they do also.  Let them hear from you!

I will be coming back Thursday evening.  I will be saying Mass in the school on Friday morning in celebration of Catholic School’s Week.  I will be taking communion to the nursing homes, but will delay visiting the home-bound until the following Friday.

Have a good week and enjoy God’s blessings, especially His love and gifts as you grow in prayer!

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

"Could you not then watch one hour with me?"

To St. Faustina our Lord said,

"I have opened My Heart as a living fountain of mercy.

Let all souls draw life from it.

Let them approach this sea of mercy with great trust.

On the cross, the fountain of mercy was opened wide by the lance for all souls -

no one have I excluded.

I am offering people a vessel with which

they are to keep coming for graces to the fountain of mercy.

That vessel is the image with signature: 'Jesus I trust in you.'

The graces of My mercy are drawn by means of one vessel only,

and that is trust. The more a soul trusts, the more it will receive."

The Divine Mercy   Fr. Seraphim Michalenka, MIC.

Join your fellow parishioners in prayers

at Eucharistic Adoration every Tuesday

HOLY CHILDHOOD SCHOOL

Principal:  Mr. Ron Karcher:  476-3505
School Office: 566-2922

What did John the Baptist have in mind when he said, “Behold the Lamb of God?”

In November 1989 when communism fell in Czechoslovakia, the church was once again free. They put a sign on the lawn of a Prague church. It read, "The Lamb wins.” Those folks understood “Lamb of God”.

Who is this Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world? There are lots of sins and the governments try to take them away.

In the 1920’s the sin was alcohol. The belief was that, if we take away alcohol, industry would be more productive, wife beating and child abuse would stop. The theme of the drive was “Save the children.” For a while it did work. Then bootleggers, and gangsters took over and even children were recruited to deliver alcohol. The repeal began and state after state voted the 18th amendment down. The theme was "Repeal prohibition and save the children.” The government program failed to take away the sins.

Communism was to take away the sin of poverty and inequality and it roared like a lion. Life for everyone would be better. For over 70 years the leaders squashed dissidents, banned religion, set up a secret police and brutally killed millions. It failed because it failed to feed the people physically or spiritually.

The point is that it is easy for governments to say they will take away sins when in fact there is only one, the gentle Lamb of God who gave his life for us. And in this we can see the message that it is self-sacrifice, self-responsibility grounded in faith that will take away the sins of the world. It is the lambs of the world, the little people, people of principle, honesty, integrity and faith that will conquer sins.

The message is that the lambs in this school, church, community, country is where salvation comes from. It comes from you, not the government. It comes from faith in God, believing and practicing faith.  Thank you to all the lambs that do it day in and day out. You are Christ’s lambs.

From another lamb,

Deacon Ron Karcher
