FATHER'S TWO-CENTS WORTH
I want to thank all of those who have supported the Diocesan Services and Ministry Appeal so far. We now have 192 members of the parish who have indicated that they are for this vital program of our Diocese. Our goal is at least 152 parishioners. At the present time, $34,510.7l has been pledged and donated toward our goal of $38,734. God has been good to all of us, and we can show our appreciation by sharing His goodness, the faith, through our participation in the CSMA. God bless all who have stepped up to the challenge to be a part of the Catholic Services and Ministry Appeal!
This week, we have our parish Penance Service, on Tuesday, at 7:00 P.M. There will be six priests here to administer the Sacrament of Penance (Reconciliation). We all have a responsibility to receive the sacrament of Reconciliation at least once a year. It is also part of the requirements of the Divine Mercy Novena for the Indulgence. However, more than that, it is an opportunity to receive God’s mercy, and also His grace to lead a meritorious life toward heaven. It shows our love for God, as WE COME TO HIM to receive healing with Him, our church, our faith family.
There will also be penance services this week on Wednesday at St. Nicholas Church, at 7:00 P.M., and on Thursday at St. Clare of Assisi Church at 7:00 P.M. Both are in O’Fallon.
As I write this column, our March Blood Drive is this afternoon, and so I cannot give any results yet. I thank all of those who came to give blood today, and all who have volunteered to work. I thank the Scouts (boys and girls) who have given of their time to load out the Red Cross after the Blood Drive. I call your attention to our MAKE-UP DRIVE on Saturday, March l5th (next Saturday), from 9 A.M. to 2 P.M. This is to accommodate those who could not come today (Thursday), and also to offer an opportunity to those who were deferred, or not feeling well today. Thanks for your support of the Blood Drive, from those who need your blood.
Next Sunday is Palm Sunday, the beginning of Holy Week, and the following Sunday is Easter! Palms will be blessed at all Masses; at the 10:30 Mass on Sunday, the blessing will take place in the parish center, and a procession from there to Church will follow. For those of you who come to the 10:30 Mass, and who can participate in the procession, we start in the parish center.
On Thursday morning of this week, we will have the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the students of Holy Childhood School. We will have extra priests to help in this sacrament. I ask the parents to pray for their children in a special way on this day to help them prepare. Many of our students do not yet know their basic prayers, like the Act of Contrition.
Lenten Project PSR will be collecting dry goods for the Food Pantry as a Lenten service project. The 8th grade will be heading up this project and will be responsible for collecting and assigning items to each grade. The food pantry is in need of paper towels, tooth paste & brushes, dish soap, face soap, toilet paper, lotion, shampoo, etc. PSR will be collecting these items during the six weeks of Lent. Thank you for your help.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION "Could you not then watch one hour with me?"
The church has received the Eucharist from Christ her Lord - not as one gift, however precious among so many others, but as the gift par excellence, for it is the gift of Himself, of His person in His scared humanity, as well as the gift of His saving work. (Pope John Paul II)
Consider spending extra time with our Lord, especially during Lent. Come to find how peaceful and enriching your time spent in Eucharistic Adoration will be. The blessed Sacrament is exposed every Tuesday following the 8 o'clock Mass until 7 PM and on Saturdays from 9-10 AM.

Once upon a time in a nice little forest, there lived an orphaned bunny and an orphaned snake. By surprising coincidence, both were blind from birth.
One day, the bunny was hopping through the forest while the snake was slithering along the same path. The bunny tripped over the snake and fell down. “Oh, my,” said the bunny, “I’m terribly sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt you. I’ve been blind since birth, so I can’t see where I’m going. In fact, I’m also an orphan, so I don’t even know what I am.” “It’s quite okay,” replied the snake, “my story is much the same as yours. I’ve been blind since birth and never knew my mother. Tell you what, I could slither over to you, and figure out what you are.”
“Oh, that would be wonderful,” replied the bunny. So the snake slithered all over the bunny, and said, “Well, you’re covered with soft fur; you have really long ears; your nose twitches; and you have a soft cottony tail. I’d say that you must be a bunny.”
“Oh, thank you! Thank you,” cried the bunny in obvious excitement. The bunny then suggested to the snake, “Maybe I could feel you with my paw, and help you in the same way you’ve helped me.” So the bunny felt the snake all over, and remarked, “Well, you’re scaly and smooth, you have a forked tongue, you’re impossible to pin down and you have no backbone at all. I’d say you must be either a consultant or possibly someone in senior management.”
The task of this joyful season is to bring our good humor and compassion to bear on the blind spots in our own lives and be on our guard for the times when we are too confident about who God is, how He works or what He can or cannot do. We need to open our eyes and see God in others.
Sincerely, Deacon Ron Karcher
