FATHER'S TWO-CENTS WORTH
Today is Commitment Day for our Parish Stewardship Program. We ask you to make a commitment to using your time, prayer, talent, and treasure in such a way that, before God and Man, you would not be ashamed. If you need to take the commitment sheet home, please bring it back next Sunday with your prayerful conclusions. If it is not on the sheet, you might add your E-Mail address also, if you wish.
Thanks to those who responded to the second letter of the Catholic Services and Mission Appeal. When we help this annual drive, we help the church in Southern Illinois fulfill its mission to serve and minister, and grow by the good example that we make possible. If you have not been part of this wonderful work, you can add your help by supporting this effort.
On Wednesday, at 4:00 P.M., we have practice for the Sacrament of Confirmation, which will be administered on Friday evening. This is a COMMAND ATTENDANCE—NO EXCUSES! Be on time, so that we can arrange all the stages properly, and avoid mistakes that would be embarrassing to you, your family, and to your instructors.
Confirmation will be at 7:00 P.M. on Friday, May 2, Bishop Braxton will be the Celebrant.
Normally, this week would celebrate the Feast of the Ascension on Thursday. However, the church in our Province (Illinois), and our Diocese will celebrate it next Sunday. So Thursday is NOT A HOLY DAY OF OBLIGATION... SUNDAY IS ALWAYS A HOLY DAY OF OBLIGATION!
Time is moving faster, or at least is seems that way. On May 4, we have Baccalaureate at Zion Lutheran Church at 4 PM. On May 11, Mother’s Day, Knights of Columbus have a breakfast in the cafeteria. Nurses for Life will be selling roses to support Project Rachel. And also at 10:30 Mass, we will have our annual high school graduates Mass to commend our seniors on their achievement—of graduating and for the honors they have brought to Holy Childhood School and Parish. And on it goes with our own parish and school events. Can’t stop it, so let us all enjoy it!
I could use some volunteers for lawn maintenance. With the green space around the parking lot, there will be more grass to trim and to mow, and one of our regular mowers for the parish territory has resigned. So, here is a stewardship opportunity for someone.
ATTENTION PARENTS: PSR Spring registration will be held on May 4th and May 11th before and during class time.
CONFIRMATION Rehearsal for Confirmation is on April 30th at 4:00 PM in the church. Rehearsal should last one hour.
The sacrament of Confirmation for Holy Childhood parish is on May 2, 2008. There are 38 young men and women who will receive this gift of the Holy Spirit. Please remember them and their families in your prayers.

Our Savior could not possibly have given us a greater,
a more tender and a more ardent proof of love." (The Holy Eucharist For All,
Fr. Lulas Etlin, O.S.B.) Jesus Himself, invites us to frequently approach and draw from the fountain of graces available in the Blessed Sacrament. Eucharistic Adoration is available at Holy Childhood on Tuesday following the 8 AM Mass until 7 PM, and on Saturday, 9-10 AM.

Two friends were walking through the desert. During some point of the journey, they had an argument; and one friend slapped the other one in the face. The one who got slapped was hurt, but without saying anything, wrote in the sand: “Today my best friend slapped me in the face.”
They kept on walking until they found an oasis, where they decided to take a bath. The one who had been slapped got stuck in the mire and started drowning, but the friend saved him. After he recovered from the near drowning, he wrote on a stone: “Today my best friend saved my life.”
The friend who had slapped and saved his best friend asked him, “After I hurt you, you wrote in the sand and now, you write on a stone, why?” The friend replied, “When someone hurts us, we should write it down in sand, where winds of forgiveness can erase it away. But, when someone does something good for us, we must engrave it in stone where no wind can ever erase it.”
Learn to write your hurts in the sand and to carve your benefits in stone. They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them, but then an entire life to forget them.
