FATHER'S TWO-CENTS WORTH
I want to thank all who participated in our Stewardship Commitment Sunday last week-end. We received over 110 commitments, with over 51 wanting to go into new areas of service. I hope that everyone in the parish will commit themselves to a better use of their time, talent and treasure—stewardship of God’s gifts to you. What we do now has far lasting consequences into our eternal life. If you have not signed up, do so today.
Today, we celebrate the Feast of the Ascension, now transferred from this past Thursday. It seems that holy days are not as important for people today, and can easily be skipped and forgotten; if they are not convenient, people do not attend! So, by putting the feast on Sunday, we can again reach people as they come for Sunday Mass, and instruct them on the importance of this particular feast day.
As we begin May, the month dedicated to Mary, we will be offering Rosary and Benediction on Wednesdays, at 5:30 P.M. I know that it is early, but it also is a time that when coming home from work, one can go straight to church, and then have the rest of the evening off, unless of course you have other obligations. We need to come to a greater, and renewed awareness of Mary, and the power of her intercession. We cannot go it alone—we need the help of Mary, the saints, of the whole church.
May 10th is the Ordination of Deacon Nicholas Junker, as a priest for our diocese, to be held at 10:30 AM at the Cathedral. Please remember him and his family in your prayers.
Next Sunday, May 11th is Pentecost, feast of the Holy Spirit! Pray for renewed strength from the Holy Spirit, that we can renew the face of the earth and be renewed. Pray also for all those who no longer practice their religion—that they be inspired and renewed to come back to their faith, and live it.
Next Sunday, Holy Childhood Parish will honor its graduates from high school at the 10:30 A.M. Mass. They all have received a personal invitation to come in their “caps and gowns” to grace Mass, to participate in the Eucharist, and be recognized for their achievement as graduates. Since most of them will be going on to college, and moving away, the parish gives to each a crucifix to take with them to their new residence, to remind them of all that Jesus did for them, and their duty to live their faith. May God bless them all the days of their lives!
Next Sunday is also Mother’s Day. We thank God for our Mothers (and Dads—need both), for all that they have done for us in our lives. We ask God to bless them always. The Diocesan Respect Life Ministry will be selling roses, as they have in the past, before and after Masses. Profits go to support Project Rachel.
Also on Sunday, the Knights of Columbus will host a “Pancake and Sausage” breakfast with all of the trimmings in our school cafeteria from 7:00 AM to noon. All are invited.
I could use some volunteers for lawn maintenance. With the green space around the parking lot, there will be more grass to trim and to mow, and one of our regular mowers for the parish territory has resigned. So, here is a stewardship opportunity for someone.
ATTENTION PARENTS: PSR Spring registration will be held on May 4th and May 11th before and during class time.
CONFIRMATION
The sacrament of Confirmation was administered this past Friday, May 2, 2008. There are 38 young men and women who received this gift of the Holy Spirit. Please remember them and their families in your prayers.
