FATHER'S TWO-CENTS WORTH
Today is Mother’s Day, and we want to wish all of our mothers, step-mothers, foster-mothers, grand-mothers, god-mothers, all of God’s blessings and joys! You took on a new role in your lives, and the lives of others! He has asked you to be His presence and His love to those who rightfully can call you “Mother”. He has also promised you His special help and grace when you took on this role, and gave yourself to bringing God’s life to others. Thank you for your dedication! Thank you for showing the goodness that God has instilled in you to others, and your trust in Him. In spite of “ups and downs”, may your blessing and consolation be that “you did your best” with God’s help. Happy Mother’s Day! May God fill you with His love and blessings!
Today, we recognize our graduates from Holy Childhood Parish at the 10:30 Mass. As I mentioned in last week’s article, our grads will be departing to various schools, job opportunities, and different locales. Many will stay here in Mascoutah. We want you to always remember where your spiritual home is—the one that may have given you your education—Holy Childhood School, the parish that gave you your faith formation, the parish family that made sacrifices that helped you to grow into adulthood, and the parish that still considers you as partners with the rest of the parish family to help you, and to count on your help in return. I am sure that you want the parish to pray for you and support you in your good decisions. The parish has accepted this as part of our family ties. However, we cannot be “takers” alone. We also have to be “givers” of our time, talents, and treasure. We pray that you will always be the sign of God’s presence and goodness and involvement in all that is good, where-ever and when-ever needed!
Baccalaureate was interesting last Sunday. We had six ministers present, and five graduates. Two of the graduates were from Holy Childhood, and three from the Zion Lutheran Church. It was gratifying to see our parish represented. High School Prom was the night before and that probably explains a good portion of the event.
With gas prices rising, food prices going up, inflation all around us, and economic problems all around, and the war situation not improving, and all of the turmoil with the election, and the rhetoric to win votes—big problems face us! When you feel like tossing in the towel, or raising your hands in despair, there is another answer to all of this—prayer! In the “Hail Mary”, we say in the response—“Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death”. May is the month of Mary, and the Rosary! We have recitation of the Rosary before mass on the weekdays, and Rosary and Benediction on Wednesdays at 5:30 P.M. Do you really have any problems for yourself, for the country, or for the world that need divine intervention? If not, you are either lucky or naïve! In all honesty, I believe that all of us have many issues that cause us worry, and need divine help. Make the special effort, -set aside the time-, to come and pray with us for yourselves, for all of us, for our country and the whole world. All that we have will be taken from us, or we from it! We do not know when it will happen!
Thanks to all who signed up for Stewardship. We need your help! Thanks also to all who supported the CSMA. We exceeded our goals of participation and dollars

The Battle is the Lord’s 1 Samuel 17:47
The story of David and Goliath is well known. What an account of courage, of hope, of victory! David worked two jobs; one as a shepherd and the other as a musician for the king. The Israelite army was shaking in their sandals every time they heard Goliath.
Young David came along and was shocked by the attitude of the army. He acted immediately and went to King Saul. He reminded the king that he had battled animals as a shepherd. Saul gave the rookie a shot, and one shot was all he needed.
David boldly turned to the giant saying, "All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves, for the battle is the Lord’s…”
When we face giant problems and feel weak in the knees, we need to get on our knees and in prayer say, "…the battle belongs to the Lord.”
Let us pray, "The battle is yours, Lord. I surrender it to you and go forward in confidence as you lead, praying and trusting in your strong name. Amen.”
God Bless you, Deacon Ron Karcher Principal
