FATHER'S TWO-CENTS WORTH
This afternoon (Sunday), at 2 P.M. we will have the graduation Mass for our students of Holy Childhood School. We congratulate them and their parents for attending Holy Childhood, and working for a Catholic education. We hope that the knowledge that you have attained, guided and flavored by our Catholic faith, will guide you joyfully and successfully through life, and into eternal happiness in heaven. We all need mentors and good examples to imitate and rely on. A Catholic home should be the leading example of Catholic living. Whether we like it or not, all of us are responsible to one another, from childhood through our whole life. Pray often to the Holy Spirit for guidance!
High School Graduation is this coming Friday. Our congratulations to all of the high school graduates from Holy Childhood Parish. We hope and pray that you will always be a shining example of Catholic living, loving God and your neighbor, bringing you to achieve your valid goals and eternal life in Heaven.
Tuesday, at 4:00 P.M., there will be a Mass at the Cathedral for all of the priests celebrating jubilees this year—60 years, 50 years, 40 years, and 25 years. I will be one of those concelebrating Mass with the group and the bishop. Pray for vocations from within our diocese! Suggest to, and encourage, those persons you believe would be a good priest. Our ranks are getting fewer and fewer, and much older!
Wednesday is Rosary and Benediction at 5:30 P.M. We had an increase in attendance this past week. There is still a lot of room in church, and all of us have a lot of room for God’s blessings. Please come and pray with us!
Our parish did great on the Catholic Services and Mission Appeal. Our goal was $38,734.00 and our commitment to date is $50,494.2l. Our goal was to get 253 persons involved, and so far, we have 268. There are six returns that have not yet been processed. What you have done in your kindness and charity is to extend the hand of God’s mercy to countless persons in Southern Illinois and help them to know God, love God, and serve God. God is working through you! Thank God for your blessings and opportunities!
There will be a Red Cross Blood Drive in our school cafeteria on Thursday, June 5, from 2 P.M. to 7 P.M. Please make it a serious commitment to come and give blood in order to save someone’s life. Our “make-up” drive will be on Saturday, June 14th, from 9 A.M. to 2 P.M. The first drive (5th) has a higher goal, and therefore will have a larger staff to facilitate your donation of blood. Nobody relishes being stuck with a needle! But saving a life can make it worth while! And that is what you do when you give blood!
The Mascoutah Ministerial Association asked all of its member churches to see if we can find a larger place for the Community Food Pantry—donated free usage, or paying a minimal rental (one that we can afford). If you know of such a place, please contact Fr. Hartlein.

Our Lord told St. Faustina, "If souls would only want to listen to My voice when I am speaking in the depths of their hearts, they would reach the peak of holiness in a short time! God is very displeased with the lack of trust in Him and this is why some souls lose many graces. Distrust hurts His Heart, which is full of goodness and incomprehensible love for us." (Diary of St. Faustina)

Last week I attended a meeting that originally was iced out March 1st in Mt. Vernon. That was the day I drove from Mt. Vernon to Mascoutah only to get the call as I pulled into the Holy Childhood parking lot, that we were dismissing early.
That meeting was about the test results from October. Grades 2-8 were tested in the areas of Reading, Language, Math, Science and Social Studies. How did we do? In every grade, in every subject, we were above the nation. In many areas, we exceeded it by a large margin. What it shows is that our students, as they progress through Holy Childhood School, continue to excel. I also see the results in the graduates from Holy Childhood who attended Mascoutah High School.
Just last Sunday, the parish honored the seniors who will be graduating from Mascoutah High School. The top three academically were graduates of Holy Childhood School. This says that our students not only work hard but they are given an excellent education. Our teachers and staff continue to challenge themselves and the students. The parents believe in a good Catholic education and the students not only respond, but respond in a very positive manner.
This doesn’t just happen by itself. It takes everyone contributing talent, time and treasure. Thank you for helping Holy Childhood succeed. God bless you for all you do.
Sincerely Deacon Ron Karcher Principal
