FATHER'S TWO-CENTS WORTH
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Last Sunday’s celebration in honor of my 50 years as a priest was beyond my wildest expectation. As I mentioned in last week’s bulletin, I did not realize all of the people involved in the preparations, putting it all together, and making it play out—fabulous! The “pre-mass reception for my family and relatives, with luncheon” brought much praise and gratitude; it gave me a chance to spend time with them beforehand, so as to have more free time after the reception. The mass and music was so special and all of the priests told me how special it was to them. Msgr. Dobkowski was so elated that he told all at the Hincke Home, and Bishop Schlarman called me the next day about it. The dinner and “roast” was great! All I heard from friends and parishioners was that it was a great event. Thank You, all who made it possible. We had a good time, a happy time, a time to be blessed by one another, and to laugh at the pastor. Thanks also for all the cards, gifts, and tributes. The HD TV is great!
Baptism class is this afternoon in the parish center at 2:00 P.M. We should be out by 3:30 P.M. All those who are expecting a child, or have a child to be baptized, need to come . Baptism in not merely an event—it is an introduction to a life with Christ, and the parents need to be teachers by word and example.
Saturday is the “MAKE-UP” blood drive, from 9 A.M. to 2 P.M. Our goal is 50 units of blood for this drive. I thank all who came on Thursday to give blood. I thank all who helped with set-up, helping out during the whole drive, and take down. It is what makes a blood drive successful, and helps save lives. We always need help in the “take-down” after closing the blood drive. If you have time, come and help out!
Next Sunday is Father’s Day! It is a good time to remember what each one of us expects our fathers to be, and what we can do to help him be the person God wants him to be, or maybe, wants us to be. Pray for him! Offer your Mass and Communion for him!
We are going to have the school playground patched and sealed in the near future, possibly Monday or Thursday. Please do not drive on it for a day or so after it is applied. Give it a chance to cure, and do the job it was meant to do—protect the surface!
Summer is here! Do not forget your obligations to God through prayer and sacraments. We want God to bless us every day, all the time! We need to show our gratitude and openness to God’s goodness in our lives.
GIFT CARD: Going on vacation or traveling this summer? We can order gift cards for BP gas (in stock), Shell gas, Exxon/Mobil, American Airline, Disney, Marriot, Best Western, Hyatt, Comfort Inn and Carnival Cruises. Place your order at school or after any mass. Call Debbie at 566-2866 with any questions. Thanks for supporting Holy Childhood School!

Stacie needs to know the size of the wood craft to determine in which stand it will be placed. Dear Parents,
It’s been said that pastors serve on the front line of ministry. Do you agree or disagree? I’d have to respond, “Yes, but . . .”
You see, that comment easily conjures up a mental picture of the pastor all alone in the trenches on the battlefield. With one hand, he holds the shield of faith, extinguishing the flaming arrows of the evil one. With the other hand, he bandages the wounded and ministers to the dying. Simultaneously, he kneels in prayer. With his mouth, he speaks both God’s perfect Law and pure Gospel. His eyes survey the landscape, looking for predators intent on hurting his flock. At the same time, he searches for more opportunities to serve.
Whew! The picture exhausts me! How about you? Yes, pastors are on the front line of ministry, but they do not serve alone. Nor does God call them to do it all! Yes, God blesses his church by sending servant-leaders to shepherd us. But as he calls pastors to the shepherding tasks, he calls all the rest of us to the front lines of ministry, too. Jesus, the Victory Giver, ultimately leads his church. He protects, encourages, provides, nourishes, heals, and equips us. In fact, as David reminds us, the battle belongs to the Lord (1 Samuel 17:47).
Remember we are all called to serve the Church. Join the front lines. Thank you, Monsignor Hartlein, for 50 years as a priest.
Sincerely,
Deacon Ron Karcher Principal Holy Childhood School
