FATHER'S TWO-CENTS WORTH
Half the year is now passed! We are now on the downhill side of 2008. Time flies when you are having a good time. And God gives us the time and the opportunities to enjoy His goodness and love. Please do not forget to thank Him every day for these blessings. Tomorrow could be a lot different! We see it happening all around us with job losses, health problems, family problems, accidents, and weather disasters. We must always remember that God is the boss, we are His people, His creation, on borrowed time, and using His gifts as stewards, not owners! We are not equal to God, nor are we doing Him favors when we pray, go to church, use His gifts well, and love our neighbor as ourselves! We are always SERVANTS to our God.
This brings me to a topic that many will take exception to—the way some dress when they come to Mass! Some will say that God does not care how we dress, and that He is glad that we just come to Mass. Do you feel that way when you go to a wedding or to apply for a job? Do you feel that way when you attend a banquet, or are going to meet a person of importance? Would you feel that way if you were to meet the Pope or the president of the United States? Would you be satisfied if someone came to your special event dressed in the same clothes that they would be wearing at the parks or playgrounds, or when they are camping and recreating? I am not trying to be hardnosed, but I think that some have allowed their respect for God and the Mass to slip in importance in their lives. I believe that in what we do, or to whom we are presented, we show our appreciation for them in the way we dress. We dress to the extent that shows our awareness of the person we are with. In this case, we come to Mass and church to meet our God. Is this the way we would want to meet Him in our departure from this life? We must all answer this question for ourselves. I hope that our appreciation for God, and our need for Him in our lives will dictate a respectful attire at Mass and in the church.
Thanks to all who worked so hard to make the Holy Childhood Golf Tournament a successful event. Much time goes into events like this to help our school and our parish. Many “at home” hours are spent planning, soliciting, printing and mailing, and then on the day of the event making it happen. More is involved than meets the eye. Thanks to all who made it happen, and to all who participated.
Do you need service hours to meet your Confirmation requirements? First come, first served! There are some jobs that need to be done now. Contact the rectory!
Homecoming week-end is quickly approaching. We will need help in the Hamburger Stand as our parish contribution to its success. We ask you to contact Jimmy Amann, our parish coordinator on this project, if you can help out. We work Friday evening, Saturday all day, and Sunday all day. It is a great opportunity to work for your parish and community, and to make new friends. Call Jimmy (235-4199)—don’t make him call you!

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
"Could you not then watch one hour with me?"
"The fundamental reason for the lack of peace in our hearts and in the world may well be our rebellious independence from God. In His conversations with Saint Faustina, the Lord emphasized the connection between trusting Him and finding peace. But this peace that comes from trusting God's mercy is not just for individual souls; it is also for nations and the world. The path to peace is not in summit meetings, nor in stockpiling arms, nor in acquiring more material goods. The path to peace is found only in God's mercy." (Come to My Mercy, Rev. George Kosicki; CSB)
Visit Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration every Tuesday following the 8 AM Mass until 7 PM and on Saturday from 9-10 AM. If you would like to commit to a specific hour to pray on Tuesdays please call Mary Ellen Mueller at 566-9529.

We’re Going to Be Spending a Lot of Time Together
On vacations, families spend more time together than they usually do during a typical day or week. During a regular week, family members are running around doing their own thing—going here and there and everywhere! But now you’re on vacation. Look at those around you and say, “We’re going to be spending a lot of time together!”
Okay, let’s be honest. When we spend this much time with someone, some stressful times are likely. Others may do things that get on our nerves. We don’t always want to do the same things. Arguments might start. We may even wish we had more time alone.
But there’s good news! We can improve our family time by taking a few simple steps. Here they are:
May God bless you with a fun and special vacation! Remember that we’re all sinners and in need of God’s forgiveness. And while we’re all in this together, God is ultimately in control and in charge! Enjoy the trip . . . and those around you!
Bible verse: The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise. . . . He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9).
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for being patient with me. I will always need your love and forgiveness. Help me to learn to be patient and loving with everyone around me. I love you, Jesus. Amen.

"Some seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it." Sometimes, as much as we love each other it seems like the thorns of life are choking our marriage and family. Take time to kill the thorns by taking time for your Sacramental marriage. The next Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend in this area is August 8th to 10th.
