Below is a letter from the child in Guatemala who is sponsored by Holy Childhood . Dear Holy Childhood Church, I greet you, wishing God spill blessings upon your family and that you be enjoying a good health. I write you to thank you again for all the help that you have given me through the project, because every month I receive food, clothing, shoes and also I have received birthday and Christmas gifts and these are useful for me and my family. All the benefits that I receive help to the economy of my home and also at the beginning of year I receive school supplies. I wish with all my heart that God bless and reward you greatly. I want to tell you that thanks to God and to the project CFCA now I have a bank account and it is something that makes me happy because it will help my mother with the expenses of my school. Also I tell you that now I am studying the fourth grade and I am doing well, although some subjects are difficult for me. I pray to God that helps me to be a successful young boy in the future and to be the proud of my mother. I wish you have hope in God and that you live enjoying the blessings of God. I dismiss from you telling you that I love you so much. This is from your sponsored child.
Thank You
Words cannot express how profoundly grateful I am to the people of this parish for their outpouring of love, concern, and comfort to me and my family following the loss of my wife Pat last week. I was overwhelmed at first at the response, but should not have been surprised. She was a caring, loving person, and this is a caring, and loving community. I am forever in your dept.
God bless all of you, Bill Huff
AUGUST CALENDAR CORRECTION There will be a 6:30 AM Mass offered on August 15th, Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a Holy Day of Obligation, in addition to the 8 AM and 7:30 PM Masses.
IN NEED Due to current economic conditions afflicting the poor, The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is in great need of good, usable furniture including beds, mattresses, chests, dressers etc. If you have items that you would like to donate, please call 618-875-3886 and leave a message on line 1. Your call will be promptly returned. May God bless you for helping us to serve those in need.
Help Needed Your parish is looking for a volunteer(s) to water the flower pots and beds around the parish grounds; it would be a perfect project for a family or a Confirmation candidate needing service hours. The time involved would be three times a week, either mornings or evenings. The pots need watering three times and the beds once. If you need the service hours or would like a family stewardship project give the rectory a call. Thank you!
GIFT CARDS Purchase Gift Cards at face value for everyday purchases or to give as gifts. Holy Childhood School receives a percentage back on every gift card purchased. Call Debbie at 566-2866 with any questions. Thank you for supporting HCS.
PARISH PICNIC Stand managers, please call your workers to verify that they are working this year! Also please send me your workers' list by August 10th so I can see where we need workers and to sign people /families up on the weekend of the 16th. You can email me your list (hawaiiancornmans@charter.net) or drop it off at the rectory. Also please turn in your baskets as soon as possible so that we don't have to work late into the night of August 19th. Thank you, Stacie Cornman, Picnic Chairman

Where Are We Going to Sleep Tonight?
Do you have trouble sleeping when you’re on vacation? Mattresses (or sleeping bags), nighttime sounds, and surroundings are all different from what you’re used to. While vacations should be a time to relax, we sometimes find it hard to get comfortable. It’s a blessing to have a place to sleep, though, and it’s easy to take that for granted. Night after night we lie down, often forgetting to thank God for nice beds, pillows, sheets, nightlights, and maybe even stuffed animals! Have you ever thought about where Jesus slept as he traveled around from town to town? Jesus once said that many times during his ministry he didn’t have a place to lay his head—no comfy pillow or mattress to sleep on. Jesus didn’t say this so people would feel sorry for him. He said it after a man told him, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go." Jesus replied, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head" (Matthew 8:19–20). Jesus wanted to let the man know that following him wasn’t easy. Even the animals had regular beds in which to sleep, but Jesus didn’t have a home to live in because he traveled around ministering to people and teaching them. As you go to sleep tonight, think about what Jesus’ life on earth must have been like—even his first bed was on a pile of itchy hay in a manger. And then thank him for all the blessings you have throughout every day and night.
Bible Verse: He who watches over you will not slumber (Psalm 121:3).
Prayer: Dear Jesus, while you lived on the earth, you may not have had a comfy bed. But I can sleep peacefully tonight because I know that you never sleep. As God in heaven, you always have your eye on me, wherever I am—day and night. I pray in your name. Amen.
