FATHER'S TWO CENTS WORTH It is Thursday morning! The weather forecasts are not the most promising for Saturday’s Picnic! Gotta do some extra praying, and talking to God, (the Big Man) about our problem. Jesus said that if we ask the Father anything in His name, the Father would grant it. I hope that I can do the job right! At any rate, by the time you see this bulletin, the picnic will be in full swing or history. I want to thank all who gave so generously of time, talent, and treasure to make this event successful. Our “set-up” went so smoothly that by Wednesday evening, all set up was accomplished. There are some items we cannot do until Saturday, like Bingo board, Bingo cards, PA systems, tarps over the stands, signage, stocking the stands with prizes, setting up the fryers and cooking arrangements. To all of those who came Saturday morning to help in this crunch, to all who baked pies and cakes, to all who gave quilts or money to buy quilts, to all who came during the week to set up, to all who PRAYED FOR GOOD WEATHER, and to all who worked picnic night, a great big THANK YOU from the rest of the parish, and from myself!
A big thank you also to the Wingate family and the James Bunn family for taking over the flower beds and potted plants. They have accepted the responsibility to water and to weed these areas. Thanks also to Kathy Renth, who utilized CYO members to do this task a couple of times during the summer. We all want the Church grounds to look nice and colorful. However, it takes time and work by someone. Thanks folks for the gift!
Thursday, we have our scheduled RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE in the school cafeteria. We try to have this drive close to Labor Day since there are many accidents at the end of the summer vacation time, and people are traveling and rushing to get in all they can. Also, since they are traveling, they are not available to give blood, and blood drives suffer for lack of participation. Please come and make up for the short-fall that will take place at this time of the year. The Blood Drive starts at 2 P.M., and goes to 7 P.M. Slow time is about 3:30-5 P.M., and from 6 to 7 P.M. Anytime will be a good time, if you only will show up. What more can I say ? You are saving a life when you give blood—you make it available when it is needed. It is like handing to the doctor the instruments that he needs to save a patient's life. Be a hero! Give blood!
I need someone to do some painting around the windows in the parish center, and on the sills of the church windows. The rectory is pretty well “wrapped” in aluminum except for the vents and the front porch. The parish center has space between the walls and the storm windows that need paint, and also around the front door on John Street. If anyone has some time to give, please contact the rectory. Thank you!

Quest: A Reflection Booklet for Small Christian Communities Quest is the name of a popular Catholic Scripture study series for adults and young adults who are searching for ways to grow in their faith but do not have the time to commit to long term programs. This series explores the meaning of Sacred Scripture in relation to Catholic tradition and gives participants opportunities to reflect on how the teachings contained in the Scriptures relate to daily life. Each booklet in the series offers small groups of adults a six-week program of ninety-minute sessions that combine Scripture readings, commentaries on the readings, questions for discussion and faith-sharing, suggestions for prayer, and supplementary readings. In this book, we will examine the Sunday readings. We invite all the adults and young adults of our parish to sign up for a wonderful opportunity to grow in faith. Sign-ups will take place in front of Church after all the Masses on September 6-7. REMINDER Stewardship meeting will be on Thursday, August 28th at 7 PM in the parish center. LITTLE FLOWERS If you are a girl in Kindergarten through 4th grade interested in growing in your Catholic faith through learning about saints, virtues, and fun then Little Flowers is for you!! Little Flowers is an organization whose goal is to provide young girls with an opportunity to gather monthly during the school year and inspire them to become authentic Catholic women through meetings, crafts, music, activities, and field trips with opportunities to earn badges, medals and prayer cards. If you are interested in participating this year, please contact Ronda Beck at 566-3034.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
"Could you not then watch one hour with me?"
A priest once recorded how a gentleman came every day for a short time and sat in the back of church. When asked if he was praying, the man replied 'No, I come in here, I sit down, I look at Jesus, and He looks at me.' Is that all? he was asked. The man whispered, 'What else is there?"
Whenever there is adoration of the Blessed Sacrament we can enter, look at Jesus, and let Him look at us! If we do not know what to say we can say nothing. Our Heavenly Father knows what we need even when we do not." (Hope for the Journey, Father Jack Spalding.)
Visit Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration every Tuesday following the 8 AM Mass until 7 PM and on Saturday from 9-10 AM. If you would like to commit to a specific hour to pray on Tuesdays please call Mary Ellen Mueller at 566-9529.

YEAR OF ST. PAUL St. Peter's Cathedral will be hosting a performance of "The Journey of Saint Paul," (the story of the conversion and adventures of the great apostle, produced by Theater of the Word, Inc. www.thewordinc.org). Journey with Paul from his early hatred and persecution of the Church through his miraculous conversion and through his years of fighting for the Faith as he battles shipwrecks, imprisonments, stonings, and privations - all for the sake of the salvation of souls. This thrilling show will make you feel as if you've met the man himself - the most thrilling, outspoken, and courageous of the apostles. It's an encounter you won't want to miss! It will be performed in St. Peter's Cathedral Undercroft (basement of the church) on Sunday, September 7th at 3:30 PM. Admission is free but a free-will offering will be taken up at the performance. The presentation is one hour long.
