FATHER'S TWO CENTS WORTH The Church Picnic is history! Thank you, Lord, for the good weather! We knew you would pull through if we really prayed! And You came through for us! Thank You! You know how to push those fronts and clouds around when You want to! God, You are great! And so are all of you parishioners who worked so hard to make our picnic a success. A picnic is a great chance to meet new parishioners and old parishioners (the “veterans”). It is also a great time to learn the “ropes” and to see how much work really goes into a production such as a picnic. I thank all those parents who involved their children and teens in the many phases. Special thanks to Stacy Cornman, our picnic Chairperson! Many thanks also, to all of the stand managers and to all those responsible for the “set-up and take-down” of stands, signs, preparations, wrappings, food, drinks, publicity, etc., etc., etc... God bless you all!
By the time you read this bulletin, our Community Blood Drive will have taken place this past Thursday. Many thanks to all those who came to the Blood Drive to give blood, to all the volunteers who worked and to the students who helped unload the truck (they got out of class for a while), and those who helped load out at the end of the drive. Special thanks to Cathy Petz, who takes care of getting out the posters and other advertising in town, and also for lining up workers. Blood is so vital for lives, and when we need blood, we count on the hospitals and the Red Cross to have it available. They in turn count on the people to come and give blood so that there is a reliable quality and quantity ready and waiting. Thanks to all who helped make the Blood Drive a success!
Our make-up blood drive will be this Saturday, Sept. 6th, from 9 A.M. to 2 P.M. If you did not make the previous blood drive, come then. Our goal is 50 units for this drive.
When you leave a phone message on the parish answering machine, and you want us to return your call, PLEASE, PLEASE, give your number slowly, and repeat it. The other evening, I had to play it over five times to get the number for sure. Our minds do not always work as fast as you can speak, nor can we write it down that fast. PLEASE!
In this bulletin, there is an insert from the Catholic Services and Ministry Appeal telling how we used your gift for the “07-08” appeal in the mission of the Catholic Church in Southern Illinois. It is very interesting to see how much good was accomplished because of the generosity of the many who supported the Appeal. Our parish has been most generous in this support in the past, and even in this year. However, the Appeal for this year is falling short for various reasons in the diocese, as well as in the world. If any one feels that they can support the appeal further, or even join in for the first time, there is an envelope to show our love and concern for this work in our diocese. Every bit will help to save souls and carry on the mission of the church. Be assured of that! Thanks for all you have done in this regard all along!
Picnic Committee/Stand Managers We will have a meeting on Wednesday, September 3, at 7pm in the parish center to discuss positive changes we can make to the Church Picnic next year. We will also need to come up with another booth idea. So please come and share your positive opinions. Quest is a scripture study series that invites adults to explore teachings contained in sacred scripture and apply these teachings to daily life. The series booklet we will use this Fall is entitled Quest: A Reflection Booklet for Small Christian Communities. In this book, we will examine the Sunday readings and how they impact our lives at home, at work, and in the larger world around us. The series provides a six week program of ninety-minute sessions. Each session combines Scripture readings, questions for reflection and faith sharing, suggestions for prayer and supplementary readings. This is a great resource for adults who are looking for a way to grow in faith. Sign-ups will take place in front of church after all the Masses next weekend. LITTLE FLOWERS If you are a girl in Kindergarten through 4th grade interested in growing in your Catholic faith through learning about saints, virtues, and fun, then Little Flowers is for you!! If you are interested in participating this year, please contact Ronda Beck at 566-3034. THANK YOU to all the golfers and sponsors at this year's Holy Childhood Golf Tournament. EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
"Could you not then watch one hour with me?"
A priest once recorded how a gentleman came every day for a short time and sat in the back of church. When asked if he was praying, the man replied 'No, I come in here, I sit down, I look at Jesus, and He looks at me.' Is that all? he was asked. The man whispered, 'What else is there?"
Whenever there is adoration of the Blessed Sacrament we can enter, look at Jesus, and let Him look at us! If we do not know what to say we can say nothing. Our Heavenly Father knows what we need even when we do not." (Hope for the Journey, Father Jack Spalding.)
Visit Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration every Tuesday following the 8 AM Mass until 7 PM and on Saturday from 9-10 AM. If you would like to commit to a specific hour to pray on Tuesdays please call Mary Ellen Mueller at 566-9529.
