FATHER'S TWO CENTS WORTH He heard my prayer! We had a good fishing trip, a lot of fun, and I believe that I caught the largest fish. Of course, the guide told me up front that I was in charge of the good weather, the catching of bait, and the catching of the fish. I believe that I did pretty well on two of the three trips. The guide also told me that I had better connections than his pastor had, and that he informed his pastor of the same. I just had more backing from a great parish, who was praying me for also. Thanks for the prayers, it was a wonderful and restful trip. I was not ready to come home to the work on the desk, and the days ahead, but we will all survive!
This week is the annual Convocation of our Diocesan Priests in St. Louis. Pray for all of us that it will be a fruitful event. The Bishop has decided that we use this time to discuss the Reed report, and how we can make our diocese more unified. I believe that most of the priests see this annual event as an opportunity to visit with one another, support one another, learn from one another, and to get some rest. Please pray for all of us that much good can come from this convocation for our diocese, for those who work in our diocese, and for all the members of the Church of Southern Illinois. There is much healing needed across the board.
Many thanks to Tom O’Leary, who has been doing some painting on the parish center and also on our church window sills! Last year, Tom painted our pavilion, and we are grateful to him for his generous gift of time and talent. We are also grateful to Don Haas and Roger Hund for keeping the grass around our parking lot mowed and trimmed. They make this their special duty every week. Thanks also to Tom Norrenberns, who mows the lawn and trims weekly around the church, rectory, and parish center. Thanks to all of these volunteers who give so generously of their time.
Thanks also to all of the ladies who come every week—Tuesdays and Thursdays, and Tuesday evening to quilt. It is time for them to get together, and chit-chat as they ply their needles. But they are also making quilts for the parish picnic and for their quilt raffle. Much work goes on all of the time that is taken for granted by the rest of us. However, the parish would be truly hurting if these persons did not care so much, and were willing to give of their time and talents.
Our Annual School Auction is quickly approaching—about a month away. This is a very big and important event in the operation of our school. Please do all that you can to make it a whopping success by your support! It is a fun evening

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
"Could you not then watch one hour with me?"
A priest once recorded how a gentleman came every day for a short time and sat in the back of church. When asked if he was praying, the man replied 'No, I come in here, I sit down, I look at Jesus, and He looks at me.' Is that all? he was asked. The man whispered, 'What else is there?"
Whenever there is adoration of the Blessed Sacrament we can enter, look at Jesus, and let Him look at us! If we do not know what to say we can say nothing. Our Heavenly Father knows what we need even when we do not." (Hope for the Journey, Father Jack Spalding.)
Visit Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration every Tuesday following the 8 AM Mass until 7 PM and on Saturday from 9-10 AM. If you would like to commit to a specific hour to pray on Tuesdays please call Mary Ellen Mueller at 566-9529.

When you thought I wasn’t looking . . .
When you thought I wasn’t looking, I saw you hang my first painting on the refrigerator, and I immediately wanted to paint another one. When you thought I wasn’t looking, I saw you feed a stray cat, and I learned that it was good to be kind to animals. When you thought I wasn’t looking, I saw you make my favorite cake for me, and I learned that the little things can be the special things in life. When you thought I wasn’t looking, I heard you say a prayer, and I knew that there is a God I could always talk to, and I learned to trust in Him. When you thought I wasn’t looking, I saw you make a meal and take it to a friend who was sick, and I learned that we all have to help take care of each other. When you thought I wasn’t looking, I saw you give of your time and money to help people who had nothing, and I learned that those who have something should give to those who don’t. When you thought I wasn’t looking, I saw you take care of our house and everyone in it, and I learned we have to take care of what we are given. When you thought I wasn’t looking, I saw how you handled your responsibilities, even when you didn’t feel good, and I learned that I would have to be responsible when I grow up. When you thought I wasn’t looking, I saw tears come from your eyes, and I learned that sometimes things hurt, but it’s alright to cry. When you thought I wasn’t looking, I saw that you cared, and I wanted to be everything that I could be. When you thought I wasn’t looking, I learned most of life’s lessons that I need to know to be a good and productive person when I grow up. When you thought I wasn’t looking, I looked at you and wanted to say, ‘Thanks for all the things I saw when you thought I wasn’t looking.’
Each of us (parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, teacher, friend) influences the life of a child. Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God.
Sincerely, Deacon Ron Karcher Principal
