FATHER'S TWO CENTS WORTH We have openings for employment at Holy Childhood. Holy Childhood Church is looking for applicants to fill the post of parish secretary in the rectory. Mickey Gilbert is leaving our employ due to the transfer of her husband to a new job in Texas. It is a full time situation with benefits. The position could be divided between two persons working part time, but benefits would not be the same. Please send resume to rectory.
We are also looking for a cleaning person to clean school after hours, i.e. 3 to 11 P.M. Mr. Vernon Schulte has accepted a new employment and has given us notice of his departure. This person would begin immediately The position is full time with full benefits. Contact Mr. Karcher at school.
It has been decided by the Finance Council to sell our old pick-up truck. We seldom use it now, and liability insurance from the diocese has increased dramatically. If anyone is interested in purchasing this vehicle, please mail in a bid by mail to the rectory. It has served the parish well over the past 33 years. It is a 1970 GMC ¾ ton truck with heavy duty packaging.
This coming week is the fourth week of the month, which usually has meetings of the Pastoral Council on Tuesday, and Stewardship Council on Thursday. We urge members of both committees to be present, since there is much business to be handled. If anyone would like to join us on the Stewardship Committee, we would welcome your presence at 7:30 pm in the parish center. Some of our members are original members from the time of its formation. The Stewardship Committee promotes the active participation of all parishioners to their parish and the church with their God-given gifts of time, talent, and treasure. This committee has accomplished much in the past, and we hope that more will be attained through the infusion of new members, new blood.
We lost another member of our parish in the person of Lucille Karpel. She was 76 years of age, and spent most of her time taking care of her daughter Shirley. She was a person of prayer and dedication to her family. I took the Sacraments to her this past First Friday—the Holy Eucharist and the Sacrament of the Anointing. One seldom thinks that this could be the last time for a person. In reality, how many of us ever think that this might be our last Eucharist when we receive it in church? Her death was not something that was expected at this time. It was sudden! May she rest in the peace of Christ, and be reunited with all of her loved ones who preceded her into heaven!
I cannot say too much about the convocation as I write this article. It is going on in St. Louis, while I am here preparing for the funeral of Lucille Karpel. We still believe in miracles and pray for miracles. We need one now!

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
"Could you not then watch one hour with me?"
A priest once recorded how a gentleman came every day for a short time and sat in the back of church. When asked if he was praying, the man replied 'No, I come in here, I sit down, I look at Jesus, and He looks at me.' Is that all? he was asked. The man whispered, 'What else is there?"
Whenever there is adoration of the Blessed Sacrament we can enter, look at Jesus, and let Him look at us! If we do not know what to say we can say nothing. Our Heavenly Father knows what we need even when we do not." (Hope for the Journey, Father Jack Spalding.)
Visit Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration every Tuesday following the 8 AM Mass until 7 PM and on Saturday from 9-10 AM. If you would like to commit to a specific hour to pray on Tuesdays please call Mary Ellen Mueller at 566-9529.

Goodbye, nights and weekends?? Most Americans believe the 9-to-5 workday no longer exists, according to a survey by Management Recruiter International. Of the more than 3,500 executives polled, 61% said the traditional workday hours have disappeared. Many people don’t even look forward to weekends because they no longer exist. As more people gain more control over when and where they work, it seems neither the workday nor the workweek have a distinguishable beginning or end.
This is another of those blessing/curse things. We welcome the flexibility that technology allows but the breakneck speed many of you know in business is further blurring the line between work/home/family/leisure.
Already workers from the factory floor to the executive suite are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Many professionals, like real estate agents, have convinced themselves that to be competitive they must be available 24/7. Many have cell phones, lap tops, and pagers within reach at all times. I see people who are text-messaging and calling at all events. They are tied to their cell phones and blackberries.
We need to watch this blurring of lines in our work-life. The natural cycles of work and leisure and taking time for the weekly Sabbath will not disappear without leaving a devastating trail. If you just exhale in your breathing, you will turn blue, pass out and die. You must take time to inhale the clean, pure, wholesome air to continue living. If you just work and never take time for leisure, you will pass out in some form. There will be family, emotional or physical death.
You will need to create your own boundaries. Working on my own allows me to build in times of rest during each day – not just once a week. I like to sit out in my swing. We need to take time to pray, rest, to inhale the creation of God around us. If we don’t, we may be losing our soul.
“There is more to life than increasing its speed.” – Mohandas Gandhi
