FATHER'S TWO CENTS WORTH This is the FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT; Christmas is only three more Sundays away, or twenty-six days away! As we prepare with decorations for others to see in our homes and our church, let us put on Christ so all can see our most valued asset—Christ living in us, and working through us. Then Christmas will not be merely one day, but a lifetime of God’s joy and peace! Prepare the Way of the Lord! He is coming, ready or not! Use your Little Blue Book or The Living Word—make time to find His peace!
Our thanks to Matt Stukenberg and the Stukenberg family for fixing up the roads in our cemetery. We also want to thank Jim Wuebbels for hauling in rock from the quarry, as he came back from the grain elevator. Dan Stukenberg promised this before he passed away, and Matt and family fulfilled his promise. Many thanks to all who have given so generously of their time and talents to improve our cemetery. The Knights of Columbus are still working on the concrete walks around the Crucifixion altar and are doing a beautiful job. And our mowers Robert Anstedt, and his helpers, are to be thanked for their work on both the new and old cemeteries. All we need now is that those who put flowers and decorations on graves remove them in a timely manner, and not forget them. We all want the cemetery to look nice at all times in respect for those who are buried there, and our own loved ones. Please do your share at your own grave sites.
This afternoon, we begin our church decoration in preparation for Christmas. It is still the season of Advent, and so we do not go “full-swing” for Christmas as the stores and communities do. We need to celebrate Christmas-on Christmas and afterwards rejoicing that Christ has come. In the time of Advent, we clean the house in preparation for our honored guest—Christ! We start this afternoon at 1:00 P.M., and hope that many will come to make the event easier and quicker. Please come and be part of the church preparation.
Thanks to all of the eighth grade students who came to change books this past Friday. I know that Friday was the “big sale day”, or “Black Friday” as some have referred to it, the same as the day after Christmas for sales and bargains. However, I thank those persons who valued the opportunity to do “service-hours” in preparation for Confirmation, and the parents who encouraged and enabled their children to help out here at church when there was a need. I also want to thank the CYO members who come to help clean church several days of the month. God has given us minds and bodies to do good in this world. Make sure that we show our appreciation by serving Him wherever we can and whenever we can.
Have a blessed Advent and rejoice in the goodness and love of our God!
ST. VINCENT DE PAUL: The St. Vincent de Paul meeting will be held on December 8, 2:30 pm in the parish center.
INFORMATION UPDATES: If anyone of the parish has address or phone number changes, please let the rectory know so we can update our records.
PICTURE TAKING: We are forming a committee to take pictures at all of the church events. If you are interested, please contact Robin Booth at 618-792-0647.
CCHD: Of the 37 million people considered living below the poverty line, 45% work full time but still do not make enough money to feed their families, keep roofs over their heads and pay for health care. The Catholic Campaign for Human Development supports community-based projects – founded and managed by the poor themselves – that work toward building a better and more just community where poverty does not exist. You can make a difference. Please donate generously in today’s CCHD collection.
IRA CHARITABLE ROLLOVER: If you are over the age of 70, the IRS requires that you take a minimum distribution from your IRA each year. Normally, the amount of this distribution is taxed as ordinary income. Such distributions will still count toward fulfilling your required minimum distribution. For more information about how you and the church can benefit from an IRA charitable rollover, call the Planned Giving Office at 618-277-8181, ext. 132.
WANTED: used egg cartons; place in the breezeway; will be used for local food pantry. Thank you!
Parish School of Religion Director: Marilyn Byrne
Have a good Thanksgiving weekend and see you next week!
EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
"Could you not then watch one hour with me?"
We Need to go to the Lord first, continually and last. When we are sad, He is our consolation. When we have no joy, He brings us hope. When we are weak, He is our strength. When we are frightened, He is our courage. He heals us when we need to be healed, and fills us with all that we need, when we go to Him. He will not impose His will upon us. We decide, ourselves, whether or not to be open to the Lord and to all the incredible gifts He gives.
Eucharistic Adoration on Tuesdays after the 8 AM Mass until 7 PM and on Saturday from 9 - 10 AM. Please contact Mary Ellen Mueller at 566- 9529. Thank You!

Angel Tree
Once again the Youth Group is sponsoring an Angel Tree. Each angel contains the age, gender, and size for a person in need from our community this Christmas. The names are gathered by a representative of the St. Vincent de Paul Society in Mascoutah and are passed on to the youth group. There will be two angels on the tree for each child ages 18 and under, one angel for each adult in a family, and two angels for any adult living alone. This year to better serve the needs of the families on our Angel Tree we are asking you to list on the angel what is inside of each package when you attach the angel to the gift. We have run into a problem in the past when one child in a family receives more gifts than another child in the same family. It is also very important that we have your gifts by Sunday, December 14th. Thank you!
