FATHER'S TWO CENTS WORTH

Many thanks to all who made our First Communion celebration such a success.  Special thanks to Mrs. Amber Olson, our second grade teacher here at Holy Childhood, for all of her time and effort, not only in preparing her class, but also for coordinating the practices and being patient with the children. Many thanks also to Laurine Scott, Michelle Renth, and Marilyn Byrne for all that they did.  I believe that it all turned out well, even with the glitches with the P.A. system, and other miss-cues.  God was good to us and gave us a sunny, but windy, day.

Today, our Social Concerns Committee presented a project for the good of all of the members of the parish, namely “The File of Life”.  It is an item for you to list your personal medical information so that if an emergency occurs at your home and you call an ambulance, the Emergency Medical Staff will have access to the vital information necessary to give you the proper care.  It could mean the difference between your life and your death, whether in the ambulance or at the hospital.  As we become older and recognize that we need help more often, the “File, or Vial of Life” can help them be of better service to you in an emergency.  It is for your good!

Confirmation is this week on Friday evening, at 7:00 P.M.  The Bishop will be here to meet with the candidates and their sponsors before the ceremony, and then will celebrate mass and administer the sacrament.  Afterwards, there will be a reception in the cafeteria.  Pray that all goes well!  Pray that the candidates will enter into the meaning of this sacrament, and be open to the gifts of the Holy Spirit.  That being said, pray that all of us will allow the gifts of the Holy Spirit to blossom in our lives so that all that we do, will show the Holy Spirit alive and manifesting Himself through us.  Thanks also to our teachers who have prepared these students, namely:  Mrs. Nancy Raben, Mr. Scott Clayton, Mr. Dean Wombacher, Deacon Karcher, and Marilyn Byrne.  Thanks also to all of the parents who really have involved themselves in the preparation.

I guess that I am a “tight-wad” when I see things wasted.  However, I also believe that God has given us so many blessings to be used, and not to be wasted.  When energy is wasted, it is like throwing money down the drain, and none of us want to do that, especially if it is our own money.  But wasting energy is also throwing God’s gifts down the drain, rather than using them for doing good.  I am speaking about electricity.  I doubt if anyone would turn on all of the lights in their house, and then sit in one room.  Nor would you be turning on lights if the room is full of sunlight.  It is wasting, and you are the one paying for the waste, right?  So, let's try to conserve at church and school just like we do at home. Sometimes, it  seems that all of the lights are turned on in the gym when there are only a few people using it. Also, at times, all of the lights are turned on in church and are left on when everyone has gone. Isn’t this wasting energy that the church is paying for?  Please treat your church and school as you would your home and use the gifts God has given us wisely.

FOOD PANTRY BUILDING COLLECTION:

In a joint effort of several churches in Mascoutah to pay for the renovation of the Food Pantry, Holy Childhood will have a 2nd collection on the 4th weekend of each month, (which is also Shepherd Sunday).

Checks should be made payable to Holy Childhood; memo: Food Pantry Building.

Groceries and cash donations are also needed to maintain the food pantry for the needy. Money collected for the supplies will be kept separate from the building renovation fund. Thank you for your generosity!

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

In most modern rooms you see an electrical light that can be turned on by a switch.

But, if there is no connection with the main power house,

then there can be no lights.

Faith and prayer are the connection with God,

and when that is there, there is service."

(Everything Starts from Prayer, St. Teresa)

Come and pray before our Lord in Eucharistic adoration

every Tuesday following the 8 AM Mass until 7 PM

and on Saturday from 9-10 AM.

If you would like to commit a specific hour on Tuesdays,

please call Mary Ellen Mueller, 566-9529.

If you are off for the summer,

consider offering an hour during those months.

Dear Parents,

I always find 1st Communion an exciting day, especially during the Easter season.

Imagine the apostles, down and out because Jesus had died, and then, as they come in from fishing, there he is- cooking fish for them. Or they are walking and he is walking with them discussing the news of Jesus' death. They sit down to break the bread, eat and realized it is Jesus in their midst. As Gomer Pyle use to say,” Surprise, surprise, surprise!” Think of the apostles in the closed room and Jesus appears in their midst and says,” Peace Be with You!” Can you imagine the surprise and excitement?

On Sunday, April 26th, Jesus came in a special way to those who were making their 1st Communion. It was a time of excitement, a time of anticipation. Jesus was present. How much more exciting can it get? We sometimes forget the joy and excitement of the first time.

Imagine the excitement of when you first were able to ride a bicycle by yourself or the first time you were able to drive a car! Imagine the excitement on the day of your wedding, the family excitement at your Baptism or your first step!

Each time I go to 1st Communion I am reminded that Jesus is there! It is similar to Jesus appearing to the disciples. It is a great moment. God bless the 2nd graders and Mrs. Olson for this great moment in their lives.

Sincerely,

Deacon Ron Karcher

Principal
