FATHER'S TWO CENTS WORTH

Again, this past week, we laid to rest another of our faithful members in the person of Kenneth Klein.  I do not remember having him in high school at Cathedral in 1963-64, but he remembered me.  He told his son Michael about me in class, and Michael in turn told me what I did.  At any rate, it was a compliment, and I am glad that I had some impact on him.  Ken was a good and faith-filled person, beset with illness these last years.  May he rest in peace and receive the reward God has in store for those who love Him.

Today is Father’s Day, and we congratulate all of the Fathers in our parish.  Much rests on our role as leader in the parish and as provider to the family.  Our steadfastness in the practice of our faith has a lasting influence on the children.  Your role, as well as mine, has lasting and eternal implications, not only on them, but on all of their future offspring.  Pray that we may always live up to the image and likeness set before us in our providing and loving God, and the servant and caring-image given to us through Jesus, His Son!

Even though it is summer, we are already making plans for the rest of the year.  One that takes nurturing is the RCIA program—looking for new members to join our faith community of the Catholic Church, and bringing errant members back into the fold.  I ask you, our parishioners, to surface. Recognize persons who you believe might be interested in joining the Catholic faith, or to come back to the faith.  Please contact us at the rectory or K.K. Schneider at 566-2871.  We need your input!

I always say there is no vacation from our VOCATION as practicing our Catholic faith.  I believe that we often take summer as a time to relax from our going to mass and the sacraments, especially during the week.  It would be great to see parents bringing their children to mass during the week.  If we believe that mass and the sacraments give grace just as much as regular practice in sports or other activities makes us better, then we should not deprive the children or ourselves of this needed power of God.  How about putting a niche in our morning schedule to say "MASS TODAY."  It won’t hurt us!

MINISTRY ASSIGNMENTS!  We seem to be always looking for substitutes for weekend Masses—Eucharistic Ministers, Commentators, Lectors, Servers.  These are duties, services, responsibilities that we have assumed to the rest of the parish.  If you cannot fulfill your assignment, get a substitute, or at least let us know ahead of time. Lectors are responsible for speaking the Word of God speaking for the  apostles and prophets. They need to prepare ahead of time to know what they are saying.  Hence, the need to let someone know ahead of time who will take your place.  The same applies to Mass Servers.  All of this makes the Sunday mass more meaningful, prayerful, and enjoyable.

Saturday’s Blood Drive results:  Goal: 31 units; units taken: 34; persons presenting: 40.  Thanks to all who came to give blood and save lives!  God Bless You!

 FOOD PANTRY BUILDING COLLECTION:

The fourth Sunday of the month, we will have our second collection to help pay for the renovation of the Food Pantry, which is also Shepherd Sunday. Checks should be made payable to Holy Childhood; memo: Food Pantry Building. Groceries and cash donations are also needed to maintain the food pantry for the needy. Money collected for the supplies will be kept separate from the building renovation fund.

  IN OUR PARISH

LOOKING FOR A GIFT FOR DAD? Bookmarkers will be available at the main entrance at all Masses on Father's Day weekend. These bookmarkers/prayer cards for fathers (or in honor of fathers) and special father figures will let him know how special he is to you by thanking and encouraging him for the legacy he passes on. Donations received will help support the Respect for Life efforts and several outreach programs that promote family life in the Belleville Diocese.

CHURCH PICNIC NEWS: You will be able to pick up baskets/containers at all entrances on the weekend of July 4th. Things are starting to fall into place for the picnic. If you have any ideas or questions about the picnic, please contact the rectory at 566-2958 or email us at: holychildhoodchurch@cbnstl.com.

PARISH PICNIC QUILTS: The Holy Childhood Quilters have a limited amount of quilts for sale for the annual picnic quilt bingo. These quilts are handmade and cost $200. EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

As the Blessed Virgin once said,

'The most important thing in the spiritual life is to ask for the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

When the Holy Spirit comes, then peace will be established.

Pray to the Holy Spirit for enlightenment.

Ask the Holy Spirit to renew your souls,

to renew the entire world.

Raise your hands, yearn for Jesus

because in His Resurrection He wants to fill you with graces'."

Come join us Tuesdays  following mass until 7:00 PM and Saturday 9-10 AM.

If you would like to commit to a specific hour to pray on Tuesdays

please call Mary Ellen Mueller at 566-9529.

Dear Friends,

While school is out, the school office is open every morning 9 am- Noon,  Tuesday thru Friday. Scripts are available Tues-Thursday and after weekend masses.

The faculty said goodbye to the Greco family on June 4 with a lunch. They are being transferred this summer. Each year the faculty has a lunch for families who are being transferred and give them a religious travel clip for their car as they journey to a new home. We were very blessed that Mr. Greco just returned from Iraq on that day and was able to join us. On June 10 they had a baby girl, Vivienne Elizabeth and mother and daughter are doing fine. Our prayers go with them in their move.

There is a story about a young boy who was pulling a wagon of hay that tipped over into a farmer’s yard. When the farmer came out the boy was crying, “My dad will be really mad with me.” The farmer consoled him and invited him in for supper. The boy kept saying “My dad will be really mad with me.”   "It will be all right," the farmer said.    After the meal the boy said “My dad will be really mad with me.”   "No", said the farmer," I can explain it."    The boy still worried, “My dad will be really mad with me.”   "Why?" asked the farmer. “It was an accident.”   The boy replied “My dad will be really mad with me. He's under the hay.”

Happy Father’s Day to all fathers and those who had fathers.

Sincerely,

Deacon Ron Karcher

Principal
