FATHER'S TWO CENTS WORTH

As I said last week, I am leaving for some R & R this week-end.  Fr. Bill and I will leave St. Louis on a direct flight to Seattle, Washington, Monday morning.  We will then take our time and go into Canada for the next week.  Then we might go sightseeing, wherever the spirit will lead us.  We will be coming back on Friday, July 31st.  Fr. Jim Thomas will be covering for me while I am absent.  There will be mass on Tuesdays and Thursdays and the regular weekend schedule.  Have a good time while I am gone, and I intend to do the same.  Say your prayers, and say some for us also!

Next Sunday is Shepherd Sunday, and you know what that means.  There will be a second collection to help defray the costs of remodeling the Food Pantry.  Also, it is a time when we bring food, dry goods, and cash, to help supply the needs of the food pantry. Thank you for your support of the past and for all the good you have done through this work of charity.  The Food Pantry started in our school basement when Ernie Touchette was our custodian.  Then it moved into his basement.  When he became ill and could not do it justice, it moved into a building on Main Street.  Another move! Now a permanent home!  Thanks to all of the parishioners who have worked, and continue to work serving the needs of the needy.

Again, a reminder to you to consider persons who might be willing to become part of our parish family through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults.  You are the people who come into contact with persons who are interested in the Catholic Faith.  We need to ask, or to welcome such persons into the church.  The program will start in September.  Now is the time to plant the seeds of your own personal commitment and your faith, into their presence, in order to gain their interest and their willingness to join you in your faith.  It takes time to develop these efforts.  However, we need to be actively showing our faith and making it appealing to others by word and example.  Do you know of anyone who might be interested?  Get to work!

The offer to obtain Service Hours for Confirmation is still available.  Only two boys showed up this week!  Opportunities will not always be available when you feel like it!

Contact our custodian, Mr. David Kerwin, for assignments.

Picnic is still approaching, and we need to be promoting the success of this event.  I do not want to appear repetitious, but success depends on everyone in the parish—from prayers to promoters, to workers—the whole gamut!  Tell your friends and others! Put out posters (at the exits of church) where you work or patronize.  Spread the good news:

HOLY CHILDHOOD CHURCH HAS ITS PICNIC ON AUGUST 22nd.  We need to get the people here to have a good picnic!  And the parish is the one to do that!

Again, I ask you to continue your prayers for vocations!  Pray that persons of our parish or of other parishes will choose to serve God by becoming priests, nuns, deacons, or being good servants working in the church.  God gives us all blessings to use for Him.  We need His blessings to live life in a valued way—being the person He made us to be.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

"As the Blessed Virgin once said,

'The most important thing in the spiritual life

is to ask for the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

When the Holy Spirit comes, then peace will be established.

Pray to the Holy Spirit for enlightenment.

Ask the Holy Spirit to renew your souls, to renew the entire world.

Raise your hands, yearn for Jesus

because in His Resurrection He wants to fill you with graces'."
