FATHER'S TWO CENTS WORTH
As you get this bulletin, the Annual Parish Picnic is in full swing, or a piece of history. At any rate, God has been good to us, along with all the parishioners. Monday night was a bomb—almost two inches of rain here at the parish, and more in some other places of town. No work that night other than to get the barrels out of the pavilion. Tuesday morning came around bright and clear—humid though—and a great group of moms, dads, children, and older workers showed up. Two girls would team up to carry a heavy seat board; little ones would carry metal brackets, blocks of wood, and run errands. The boys got heavier jobs. But believe it or not, starting a nine, they had all of the bingo stands, beer stand, and other stands set up by noon for a pizza dinner. And Tuesday night, the men and more youth showed up and set up the rest of concessions stands and the chicken fry stand. Barrels were filled to enable them to carry light poles, and paper dumpsters were moved. Wednesday worked with lighting and wiring, and repairing some damaged equipment. God has blessed us so much so far this week, and the forecasters promise us good weather for our picnic week-end At any rate pray for good weather, and thank God for all the good that he has done for us. He blesses us with workers all year long, from quilters, to planners, to those who work to make the picnic a success all year long. I thank all who give and gave of their time, many times, at many places this picnic evening to make it a success. I ask God to bless all of you according to your ability and your contribution of time, labor and attitude.
Sunday, August 23rd, CLEAN-UP AND STORE AWAY! I ask you to take your time so as not to hurt yourselves, or to damage the equipment so that it will be ready for next year. Haste makes waste, and often injures! Please, take your time and do it right!
School is in full swing this week. Children’s masses will be on Tuesday (8th, 7th , 5th, 6th), Wednesday (5th, 4th, 3rd, and 2nd). On Friday, both groups will attend. The lower classes will be gradually brought into the rotation as they get more on track.
Blood Drive this week is on Thursday from 2 to 7 P.M.. This blood drive is very important because it makes up for the Labor Day weekend. Many accidents happen this weekend as people close off the summer with this holiday. And there are always the great number of hospital emergencies, surgeries, and supplying the needs of many who have terminal illnesses. Please come if you can. We are going to try personal phone calls to set appointment times that will be honored. It is hoped that this will smooth out the flow of donors throughout the day, and cut down on the wait time for donors. Thank you if you work this into your schedule. We will have baby-sitting at the site along with the cookies, raisins, and bar-b-que pork sandwiches in the canteen. With the economy being what it is, Red Cross has cut out giving T shirts for the time being.
Parents, if you can come to mass when your child or children attend, you would be doing them a great teaching experience by your example of presence and prayer. In all reality, what is more important than your union with Christ through prayer and sacrament?

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION "It is very important for us to come to a better understanding of how to be really present to the Lord, in the present moment. We need to trust that He knows what He is doing. If we could go before Him in the Blessed Sacrament and say very simply, 'Here I am, Lord, I am concerned about this, so I offer it to you. I offer me to you,' we then allow Him to take care of us. We allow Him to answer our prayers instead of telling Him what we want Him to do." (Hope for the Journey, Fr. Jack Spalding)
Visit Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration every Tuesday following the 8 AM Mass until 7 PM, and on Saturday from 9-10 AM. If you would like to commit to a specific hour to pray on Tuesdays, please call Mary Ellen Mueller at 566-9529.

Dear Parents & Friends,
“Well done is better than well said” Benjamin Franklin. Since 1859 Holy Childhood Catholic School has done better. It has provided a Catholic education with discipline and safety for 150 years. That is getting it done! In a world that values money and power yet wants to make this nation where God cannot be spoken in any public place we need Catholic Education. We do this by example and by what we say.
Please keep Holy Childhood in your prayers and your continued financial support as we begin another year.
We collect ink cartridges and cell phones, boxes are in the church lobby and school. Outside we have paper recycling bins that help the environment and the school. We can use flat screen monitors for our school computers. We are also looking for donations of items, services and monies for the Dinner Auction October 17. You can bring them to the school office. Mark your calendars for a Trivia Night September 19 at Holy Childhood to benefit the technology program.
God Bless You, Deacon Ron Karcher Principal
