FATHER'S TWO CENTS WORTH

As I said last week, I am leaving today (Sunday) to go fishing down in Kentucky.  I will return on Tuesday evening.  Even if I am fishing on the Ohio River, Kentucky claims jurisdiction over the Ohio River as part of its state.  We may be fishing on the Ohio, the Tennessee, or the Cumberland Rivers, depending on conditions.  Pray that we have good weather and a good time.

It is the holiday week-end—Labor Day.  As I said in last Sunday’s bulletin, thank God for all of the blessings you have, especially that you were able to work, or are working now during this recession.  We need to keep Him first in our lives!

Saturday, there will be the “Make-Up” Blood Drive for the American Red Cross in our school cafeteria.  The hours will be from 9 A.M. to 2 P.M.  We did not reach our goal in the August drive—only sixty-one units of blood.  If you missed that drive, or were deferred, please come this Saturday, and save a life.  I can use help in the morning, around 7 A.M. to unload the truck and help set up.  Scouts? Confirmation candidates?

Many thanks to all who showed up for our picnic review meeting on Wednesday evening. It was a very good meeting-hashing out problems, and finding solutions.  Probably one of our greatest problems is the labor problem—people not wanting to work at the picnic, but still wanting a picnic to have a good time.  So many of our workers are being abused because there are not enough replacements for the various shifts!  We do have so many generous workers, but we also have many who are wearing out, and getting tired.  We have many volunteers to help out.  We just need more to man the stands and treat the present workers like they would like to be treated themselves.  Christian charity! Children gain values from their parents!  What are we teaching by our actions and attitudes?

The cool weather of the past few days is wonderful to experience.  In all reality, God has been very good to us the past few months, and especially the past couple of weeks.  The coolness is also a good reminder that fall and winter are quickly approaching, and we are constantly moving forward in our age, and our mortality.  We are never sure of tomorrow, even though we expect that we have many, many years to enjoy life.  Live each moment as good as you can in God’s expectation!  That is why we call it the "present", a true gift from God.

Again, I ask all of you to be faithful in your financial support of Holy Childhood Parish.  We thank all of you who make a sacrificial gift to the parish on a regular basis, as it makes it possible to support our school, make repairs when necessary, pay our utilities, and keep a staff to keep our parish operating.  As I said last Sunday, our offertory gift at mass is a sign of our appreciation to God and His mission, for all the blessings He has given us.  Every adult and child has something to be thankful for, and needs to show it by their gift of appreciation.  To put everything else first before our gift to church shows how much we appreciate the gifts that God gives us, or lack thereof.  Stewardship is a life well lived in God’s plan of life!

Dear Parents & Friends,

"What isn’t tried won’t work.” – Grace McDonald.  As we begin school there are many things that children learn. They learn how to work with each other, what is expected behavior, how to study. Sometimes things work or don’t work. They learn quickly and they soak up information like a sponge. Along the way there are mistakes, words that should not have been said, yet all are experiences that teach. Our mission is to teach not only the academic in a safe atmosphere but to teach Christian values in a world that says you can't mention God in schools, public places or at Christmas. It seems that it is as important now more than ever.

Don’t forget that Monday is Labor Day and there is no school. Tuesday (September 8) is individual pictures. It is a non-uniform day. Group pictures will be taken October 14th.

As we go into Labor Day we remember those who work, those who are looking for work, and that our economy will be such that all who can work will have the opportunity to work.

Our thanks to the Hart family for a refrigerator for the faculty room. We are also looking for an electric stove to replace one in the meeting/science lab and also flat monitors for our computers in school.

Don’t forget the Trivia night on September 19th. Registration forms are available in the office. Bring a team or join a team for an evening of fun and support for the technology program.

Do you have a new item or a service to donate to the Dinner Auction October 17th?  You can turn it in the office at any time. Also ask work or a business for a donation.

 God Bless You,

Deacon Ron Karcher

Principal
