FATHER'S TWO CENTS WORTH
This past week, we laid to rest another parishioner in the person of Olivia Haas. She has been in the Grange Nursing Home for the past several years, and has been out of circulation around town and the parish. She was a great person and a faith-filled person. May she rest in peace!
You may have noticed that we had a portion of the concrete in front of church replaced. It turned out to be a bigger job than we anticipated. The concrete in front of church, the patio or whatever you want to call it, was one of our first projects after I came in 1972. It was done by the men of the parish, led by Delmar (Bucky) Walters. Well, the concrete was thicker than we anticipated, and harder than flint. It took much longer and more work in removing that small portion than anticipated. For some reason or other, it had settled about an inch and a half, and several persons tripped on it. Safety first! Of the many options to fix it, replacing it seemed the most feasible and economical. So as you walk on it in the days ahead, realize that it was a big job back in 1972, and a tough one in 2009.
Jerry and Sally Mueller are celebrating their Golden Jubilee this Saturday. They are privileged to have their son, Fr. Gary Mueller, to celebrate the jubilee mass for them. (I believe that the actual day was earlier in the year, but Fr. Gary could not be home for it.) Now the whole family can be together for this event. May God continue to bless them for many years to come!
Next Sunday, September 27th, is the Fourth Sunday of month, and is Shepherd Sunday in our parish. On this day, we bring canned goods, and other items for the Food Pantry. We can also give a monetary gift, in order to purchase needed items. We also will have a second collection for the remodeling of the new Food Pantry Building. St. John’s U.C.C. Church forwarded the money to get the job done, and all of the other churches in town agreed to help repay St. John’s over the year ahead. Second collection goes to this purpose. Make your checks out to Holy Childhood, and we will forward the amount to the proper place.
There are several persons in our parish that are in need of prayers for reasons of health. There are also many who need prayers to return to the practice of their Catholic faith. It is so easy to forget our dependence on God, or to be grateful to him for all that He has given to us until we are “between a rock and a hard spot”. Pray that God’s will be done in all of the lives of our parishioners before it is too late! Pray daily for our parish family. That will include us and all of our loved ones!
I will be gone to the Convocation in St. Louis from Monday, September 21st thru Thursday, September 24th. Please pray for all the priests and others who will be attending the retreat.

Catechetical Sunday Thank you to our catechists for their commitment and service to Holy Childhood Parish.
EUCHARISTIC ADORATION "It is very important for us to come to a better understanding of how to be really present to the Lord, in the present moment. We need to trust that He knows what He is doing. If we could go before Him in the Blessed Sacrament and say very simply, 'Here I am, Lord I am concerned about this, so I offer it to you. I offer me to you,' we then allow Him to take care of us. We allow Him to answer our prayers instead of telling Him what we want Him to do." (Hope for the Journey, Fr. Jack Spalding)
Visit Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration every Tuesday following the 8 AM Mass until 7 PM, and on Saturday from 9-10 AM. If you would like to commit to a specific hour to pray on Tuesdays, please call Mary Ellen Mueller at 566-9529.

Dear Parents & Friends,
The song the students sang in Church on Wednesday had this verse, “New life, new life is what we have been given by the Lord.”
Did you realize that we get life each day? This came to mind as I await the birth of our second granddaughter, it is indeed new life. It also brings to mind a person I visit in jail who may soon be sentenced to prison. Not a new life but a different life. They need our prayers.
We should also taste the newness of a fresh apple, see the beauty of the fields, feel the grass under our feet and love the beautiful weather.
We should also laugh and enjoy the small pleasures. One preschooler when presented with a glass of apple juice said, “I don’t drink beer.” We are grateful that they don’t. You have to smile.
If you are reading this, you have been given life by God. We thank God for the grace of another day and pray that we can see and witness life in its glory. God Bless You, Deacon Ron Karcher Principal
