FATHER'S TWO CENTS WORTH

I went to Convocation in St. Louis, and returned on Thursday evening.

In the coming weeks, those who donated to the Catholic Services & Ministry Appeal, will be receiving another request for an extra gift. The appeal is way below where we were last year. This means we are forced to cut  support to the many services the CSMA supports. We too, will be affected along with all the other parishes and agencies they support. If you can help out with an extra gift to this appeal, the appeal will be able to do more for the spreading of the gospel and helping God's people. Look toward the good you can do by your gift!

On October 4th, next Sunday, Holy Childhood parishioners and other churches will stand along Rt. 4 and 177 (Main St. & Jefferson) to demonstrate their faith in Pro-Life from 2 - 3 pm. Jerry and Sally Mueller are our chairpersons for this event and will be handing out posters to be shown at the site.

September is almost over, and we begin October this week. I will be having Mass & Communions calls on Thursday and Friday at the nursing homes and at the Assisted Living Center at Silver Creek.

October is the month of the Rosary. We will be having Rosary and Benediction on Tuesday evenings at 5:30 pm in church. Please come and pray for peace for vocations to the Priesthood, Religious Life, Deacons, and for the many intentions of your own, and of the parish.

There are many sick people in our parish that need our prayers. Please remember them, since they are our brothers/sisters in Christ, through our Baptism into the church.

Next week, we will publish the final report on our Parish Picnic. It is much better than past years. Thanks to all who helped make it a success!

When writing a check to the parish, please be careful and make sure you have the funds to cover the check. The bank does charge the church a penalty, of $4.50 for each check returned. Thank You.

Dear Parents & Friends,

Thanks to the Mascoutah Knights of Columbus for funding the buses to take Grades 5-7 to Kendrick Seminary and Notre Dame Convent and a tour of the Belleville Cathedral. This will be in November.

Have you ever heard of these famous Catholic men who were members of the Knights of Columbus?

Babe Ruth – Boston Council #219 - especially known for homeruns and helping children who were orphans or had disabilities.

Vince Lombardi – Famous coach of the Green Bay Packers. Devout Catholic and often led his Packers to Mass when they were on the road.

Floyd Patterson – Heavy weight Champion boxer.  Record 55-8-1.  Donated $600,000 for a chapel at a youth detention center.

Connie Mack – Owner and manager of the Philadelphia A’s and turned the team around and won the World Series.  Faithful Catholic and was very strong against using bad language.

These are just a few of Knights of Columbus who were devoted to their Church in the world of sports.

Hopefully, there will be many more great Knights of Columbus.  We pray also that we will see vocations to the priesthood, brother; Sisters and Deacons will come from Holy Childhood School.  Presently there are three deacons, one priest and several sisters from Holy Childhood School who are serving the diocese.  Please pray for vocations.

  God Bless You,

Deacon Ron Karcher

Principal
