FATHER'S TWO CENTS WORTH

Today, we have the Pro-Life Sunday, in which members of our parish and other churches in our community demonstrate, by silent witness, our opposition to abortion.  We will meet from 2 to 3 P.M., on the corner of Route 4 and 177, (Main St. and Jefferson).  Please come and show your faith in the life that was given to you in the womb of your mother, and your desire that all respect life from conception to death.  Destruction of a fetus through abortion is the killing of a person, no matter how you look at it.  Our church stands for the sanctity of life.  Be there!

Tuesday, we begin Rosary Devotions and Benediction at 5:30 P.M. in church.  Again, it is asking us to make time to pray for the many needs of our families, our church, our community, our world.  How can we complain about the many problems that are in the world and in our lives when we do not have the time to pray to God for solutions?  Come join us, and bring the children—they need your example and your faith.

Flu shots will be given on October 8th, this Thursday, in the parish center.  Call the rectory to make an appointment.  Tom Schneider, of our parish, is arranging this event in our parish for our safety and health.  I am getting my flu shot that morning also.

Our Annual School Auction is quickly approaching, on Saturday, October 17th.  All proceeds go to the support of our school HCS.  It is also a blessing for our parish, since it picks up part of the expense of our school, thus lessening  some of the burden on our parish.  Please support this event by buying tickets, and coming to this happy event.

As I mentioned last week, our Diocesan Services and Ministry Appeal will be sending to those who gave this year a letter asking for an extra gift, or help.  They will also be sending a letter to those who did not give this year, but gave last year.  The reason is that the annual drive, started last February, is far behind what we did the previous year and is in danger of getting worse.  This translates into less funding for the various ministries, which again translates into less services available to help the poor, the needy, our schools, even our own parish where we depend on a collaborative effort to achieve a service.  I urge you to help out, even though you might be fulfilling a pledge at the present moment.  I do not believe that any one of us has suffered loss or deprivation due to what we have given to our church, or our diocesan support.  Please, please, please, do not pitch the letter, but read it, pray over it seriously, and consider the good that can be obtained by your generous support.  The charity of God urges us!

Several have offered opinions about our big bell not sounding right.  It is cracked, and thus it lost its tonal quality.  It was that way a long, long time, well before I arrived or even my two predecessors.   When we electrified the bells, we were able to ring this bell without any further danger.  We would not have a perfect bell, but we could have four bells ring for the quarter hours, and as an introduction to the hourly ring.  This week, we had the bell people try to “undo” this particular bell, while keeping the rest.  It would not work!  The end result is that now the bells do not ring the quarter hours, nor introduce the hour chime.  Perhaps we should go back to the old “imperfect sound” system.

  IN OUR PARISH

IT'S NOT TOO LATE to make your appointment for a photo session for the parish directory. Life Touch has opened October 5th, 6th & 7th. To sign-up, you may call the rectory at 566-2958 or sign-up online at www.holychildhoodchurch.com, under Events! Thank you!

FLU SHOTS: There will be flu shots given on October 8th from 9 am - 1 pm in the Parish Center. If you have Medicare there is no charge, for those with regular insurance the cost is $25. You must be 14 years of age or older in order to receive one.  We do recommend that you make an appointment, please call the rectory at 566-2958.

BOY SCOUTS will be selling popcorn after mass on October 10-11 and 17-18. The proceeds will directly support Troop 57 in upcoming activities such as Campouts and next year’s BSA 100th Anniversary Jamboree.  Please help support your local Scouts!

THAT'S MY PAN IS HERE AGAIN! Once again the 8th Graders are raising money for their field trip by selling personalized kitchen items. They will be taking orders after all masses on the weekend of October 10/11. Items will arrive before Christmas; so get out your Christmas gift list and save yourself a trip to the store.

HOLY CHILDHOOD 17TH ANNUAL DINNER AUCTION will be held on Saturday, October 17th. Please see the bulletin insert to order your tickets. If you would like to make a donation, please contact Mary Moll at 566-2300. Thank you for your continued support of HCS.
