FATHER'S TWO CENTS WORTH
Today, the 4th Degree Council of the Knights of Columbus from Freeburg will join with our own 4th Degree members at the 10:30 mass to celebrate the Holy Eucharist. We welcome these fine gentlemen who do so much for the church. May God bless their efforts, and the efforts of all the members of the Knights of Columbus to bring Christ back into the world.
This afternoon, at 2 P.M., there will be a Baptismal Class for all those who will be having a child baptized. This will take place in the parish center. Please enter from the Green Street entrance. This class is for all those who have not had the class in the last two years.
Thanks to all the PRODUCTION TEAM for the wonderful 150th celebration of our school. Many old memories were shared, and many were recalled as we looked at the various photos that decorated the walls. Many who came were looking for other classmates who were absent. However, the young and the old mixed, shared stories, had fun, and went home renewed. Thanks to all who came and made the evening possible.
April becomes history this week-end, and May tells us many things—Spring is here, the crops should be in the ground and growing wildly, school will be letting out, and vacation beginning. As much as the weather is enjoyable, the time tells us that there will be breaking of associations as people move or are transferred, classes split up to go to different schools or meld into new friends from other schools. Marriages take place and the family both loses and gains ties. For us, Confirmation will be administered on May 13th here in our parish. Bishop Schlarman will be the celebrant, the only time that he will be confirming this year. Bishop Braxton, according to the grape vine has a conflict of scheduling in regards to the celebration of his 40th anniversary. We wish him well.
If you were here last week-end and heard our speakers, you would have heard about the financial pinch the school is in at the present. It is also a parish pinch in that we support school, and carry on our own obligations such as insurances, assessments, and church “taxes”, or “Cathedraticum”— support of the diocese. We have frozen wages for the second year in a row for all employees. We have also looked to see how we can cut expenses. But we also have to realize that honest support, in accord with God’s blessing to each one of us, must come from all parishioners. It is called STEWARDSHIP! It is using God’s gifts to us to offer praise and thanksgiving to God for his goodness, and also to meet the needs of the family of God, because we are all members of the Family of God, and we benefit from our membership in this family of God. I thank all those parishioners who support our parish on a regular basis and help the parish to be a sign of God’s love in the community as well as diocese. Our lives, our ways of living, teach the children and all of the world our values—our love of God and our love of neighbor, and our acceptance of responsibilities to live for today and to prepare for the tomorrow. Please heed the plea of last week, and realize that it is to meet this year’s needs, and next year will probably challenge us again, and on and on! Thank God for his goodness to you and the blessings you enjoy. Show this thankfulness in your practice of Christian Stewardship.

HOLY CHILDHOOD SCHOOL NEWS
We are cutting the P.E. teacher from full-time to part-time. This means some shuffling of staff and responsibility. It also means, that again this year no raises will be given to any teacher or staff member for the 2010- 2011 school year. For the coming 2010-2011 school year, Mrs. Wilhelm will be assigned as the second grade teacher and Mrs. Olson will move to the part-time PE position. This was not an easy decision as both are good, dedicated teachers. Our teachers are very dedicated and truly love Holy Childhood School.
Please keep us in your prayers. Deacon Ron Karcher, Principal
Parish School of Religion Director: Marilyn Byrne

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
"In most modern rooms you see an electrical light that can be turned on by a switch. But, if there is no connection with the main power house, then there can be no lights. Faith and prayer are the connection with God, and when that is there, there is service." (Everything Starts from Prayer, St. Teresa)
Come and pray before our Lord in Eucharistic adoration every Tuesday following the 8 AM Mass until 7 PM and on Saturday from 9-10 AM. If you would like to commit a specific hour on Tuesdays, please call Mary Ellen Mueller, 566-9529. If you are off for the summer, consider offering an hour during those months.

The 150th celebration of Holy Childhood Catholic School was an exciting evening. It was exciting because former graduates and parents took the task of putting everything together. They worked many hours and late into the night to bring it all together. It was a great week of celebration. To them, thank you. Attending the celebration was Mr. Rich Williams, former principal, and Larry Thoeming was the emcee. Many stories were told and shared. Deacons Bob Lippert, Bob Lanter, Rich Bagby and Fr. Von Deeke joined us for Mass. Deacon Bob Lippert remembered performing on the stage which was the second floor of the school. In fact, the whole second floor was a stage, auditorium and had a balcony (now a storage closet). Many were amazed at the changes in the gym and how bright it was. The floor, bleachers, painted walls, new lighting and stage curtain were the results of donations by individuals, HOPE, Athletic Committee and Church. Stories of the great sacrifices of the sisters who taught at Holy Childhood and the times where one teacher had as many as 43 students in a class. Holy Childhood also had a two year high school. There were many devoted pastors and many buildings and projects. This was all done by a faith community who believed strongly in their faith and Catholic education. This faith community went through the Civil War, World War I and II and many more conflicts. They believed in their faith and their country. Today we walk and learn where over 4,000 students had the same dream of doing their best. We now are the present, yet we build for the future and God willing at least another 150 years. Thank you for your prayers and support. God bless you.
Sincerely, Deacon Ron Karcher Principal

THE MESSENGER is preparing the May 27 Memorial Day issue, and we would like to include the names of any parishioners or their loved ones who served and died during military service to our country. We want to list their names, their date of death, their rank, if known, and the branch of service to which they were attached, i.e. U.S. Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force or Coast Guard. However, if you are unsure of any of those details but know they died during service to their country while a member of the military, please send us their names. We will again include a separate list of those presently serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, asking for prayers for their safe return home. If your parishioners or their loved ones served in Iran or Afghanistan and have returned home, we would be happy to list their names among those who receive our prayerful support. Please submit information to The Messenger by May 10. Thank you for your past and continued support of The Messenger.
