FATHER'S TWO CENTS WORTH

By the time you get this bulletin, the picnic is in progress or it is an item of history.  At any rate, I want to thank the tremendous show of help on Monday evening as we put together the picnic stands and the bingo stands.  The number of young people who came to carry out the boards and the legs, and other items necessary for the bingo stands, and their spirit of enthusiasm was great.  Thanks also to all of the men and ladies who came to make it a successful evening, and a good start.  God has blessed us with good weather so far this week, and it seems that the blessing is supposed to last into the coming week.  We pray that it is not too hot.  I guess that I am getting rather demanding, asking for so much. However, God knows how much effort is put into the picnic, and we pray that it is not in vain, but a success for the parish.

Many thanks also, to all of the parishioners and friends of the Kenneth Groennert family that came to the Prayer Service on Tuesday evening.  The Ag Building was full, and they did not have enough chairs for everyone.  It was a moving event, and a tremendous show of support for Kenny and his family.  It was also a great show of community spirit that we could come together for the support of one in need, and for one another.  Our thanks to Pastor Duane Smith for spearheading this event.

We will have a “Make-Up” blood drive this coming Saturday, September 4th, from 9 A.M. to 2 P.M.  This drive will be in Holy Childhood cafeteria.  If you could not make the drive on this past Thursday, here is the chance to save a life.  Since it is Labor Day weekend, many will want to be traveling or away from home.  Please consider those who need your blood, and cannot be away from their beds because of ill health.  They would like to look forward to a happier future, and you can make that possible by your gift of blood.  Please make every effort to be a blood donor this Saturday.

I am hoping that I can leave next Sunday to go see my brother in Iowa for a few days.  The health conditions in his house are not getting better, and a bit of physical support from me could be of great help.  I would be coming back by Thursday to take care of needs here at home.

Congratulations to Bruce Jung for being one of several to receive this year's “Faith in the Market-place” awards from our Diocesan Messenger.  The award will be presented to him on Saturday, September 18th, at St. Nicholas Church in O’Fallon.

A bit of help from you!  When you make a phone call to the rectory, and the answering machine takes your message, please speak slowly giving your name and phone number.  We are not always ready to record these items, and sometimes, we have to replay the tape several times to get that information.  It is amazing how fast one can rip-off the phone number, leaving it a challenge to the person on the other end.  Please!!

Please pray for the sick in our parish, especially Bonnie Korman and Kenneth Groennert.  There are many others who are in poor health due to illness and age and accidents, who need our prayers.  Pray also for those persons who have ceased to go to church or to live their faith.  Their absence does not strengthen their faith, nor does it help the faith community or family by their lack of spiritual support and their community presence.  Pray also for new members for our RCIA class this year.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

We need to go to the Lord first, continually and last.

When we are sad, He is our consolation.

When we have no joy, He brings us hope.

When we are weak, He is our strength.

When we are frightened, He is our courage.

He heals us when we need to be healed,

and fills us with all that we need, when we go to Him.

He will not impose His will upon us.

We decide, ourselves, whether or not to be open to the Lord and to all the incredible gifts He gives.

Visit Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration  every Tuesday following the 8 AM Mass until 7 PM, and on Saturdays from 9-10 AM. If you would like to commit to a specific hour to pray on Tuesdays, please call Mary Ellen Mueller at 566-9529.
