FATHER'S TWO CENTS WORTH

As I write this article, I have to admit that I am very tired.  I have just driven back from Des Moines, Iowa, where my brother lives—380 miles, a six + hour’s trip.  My trip turned out much different than anticipated.  I went to visit with him and help him with what is happening to Nell, his wife, who has terminal cancer and was put in a nursing home last month.  What I met was a brother who had not been taking care of his own health- poor diet, and diabetes out of control.  I hardly recognized him when I saw him at the house, and all of his actions caused me to think that he had a slight stroke.  From then on, it was take care of him and try to decide what to do for him.  He had an ear infection that we did not know of, and so he was not hearing us.  So all of this gave us bad vibes, until we got a plan of action to get him into some care.  At the moment, he is in a nursing home—the same one as his wife, and they do not feel that he had a stroke—just the combination of the diabetes and ear problem. With good care we improve his life to go to assisted living.  When I visited him this morning before I came home, he was pretty much back to his real self.  So, if I seem to be a little out of it, it has been a real experience.  Thanks for all of the prayers for them, and for myself.

By the time you get this bulletin, the School Auction will be in full swing.  I want to thank all who have helped make this the success that is has been in the past, and hopefully again.  As I wrote in my last article, the Auction is a lot of fun, and it all goes to make our school a better school, to better educate all of our children, and give them a Catholic faith.  The Catholic faith part is the key!  It is the foundation to being the love of Christ in the world today, and living out his values in our faith-filled example.

Many, many thanks to Father Abraham for his work at school, with the youth of the CYO, and celebration of the Eucharist and Sacraments!  For me, he has allowed me to visit with my brother and help him, and know that the parish needs are being taken care of.  Again, thank you, Father!

Again, a reminder for Rosary and Benediction on Wednesday evenings at 5:30 P.M.  There is so much to pray for—peace in the world, return to the faith for so many of our youth and adults, those with troubled marriages, vocations to the priesthood and religious life—the list goes on and on.  The old saying:  “What goes around comes around” comes back to haunt us so often in our lives when we could not be bothered the first time around.  Come and pray with us!  The same applies to our Tuesday Adoration Day, and our Saturday morning of Adoration, 9 to 10 A.M.

Next Sunday is Shepherd Sunday.  Please bring food or a monetary gift (please mark it in a special envelope).  Food needed at the Food Pantry this month:  canned chili and chili beans, canned tomatoes, oatmeal, sloppy joe mix hot chocolate mix, dish soap.  Every little bit helps!

The constant need for prayer challenges us in our everyday life.  How many of us start off the day with a morning prayer, thanking God for the life we have, and asking his help during the day?  Or the prayer at night. Or the prayer at meal-time, or the family prayer, where the family gathers in the evening to thank God?  All that we have is a gift from God, except sin, which denies God!  Love God, because He loves us first and gave us everything, including His own Son, Jesus Christ.

THE HOLY CHILDHOOD OF CATHOLIC WOMEN (St. Ann’s Altar Sodality) is growing smaller and we need new members.  I called about 25 ladies and invited them to visit and join us.  The response was great!  Our group increased by at least 12 to 15.  Thanks to everyone who brought canned goods for the Food Pantry.  I appreciate and am grateful for everyone helping to keep St. Ann’s alive for future generations.  We look forward to new faces joining us.  Thank you!  Gratefully, Thiry Cameron.
