FATHER'S TWO CENTS WORTH
The Auction was a great success, the best yet! Thanks to all who came, and helped make it the success that it was. I got caught again running up the price of a quilt, and now have another one in my collection. Oh well, it was all for our school! The quilt will probably get back into the “parish cycle” sooner or later anyways. They are too pretty for me to sleep under.
Many thanks for the prayers for my brother’s family. I believe that they will be moving him over to Assisted Living Residency in the near future. We had a nice long conversation Wednesday evening (tonight), on his cell phone, although he had to have the nurse dial it. It is the best one we have had since I left a week ago. He is not a cell phone person, and it is too small for him to handle at this stage of his life, and with hearing loss. Who knows what is still ahead of any of us? We live in faith of God’s goodness to us!
Here we are in the last week of October, and Halloween is this coming weekend. Other than Christmas, more money is spent on Halloween than at any other time of the year. And it is dressing up to be someone else, good or bad, fantasy land. It all started out as an evening to honor our patron saints, whose feast we would celebrate on All Saints day, November 1. Now we are ashamed to be or look like a saint, and opt to be a witch, a devil, and a skeleton, whatever. We celebrate death, more than life eternal in heaven with the saints. Although All Saints Day will be on a Monday this year, come to Mass and pray that one day you will be united with your patron Saint, and all of the saints in heaven.
If you have been reading the parish bulletin, you will have noticed that we have been falling behind in our Sunday contributions to meet this year’s budget. We are behind as of last week $16, 132 for the year. Please help us if you have not started yet. We need an extra $5.00 per week from every parishioner. In this way, we can meet our present budget and give all of our employees the salary increase they were deprived of. We give not merely to support our parish and its needs, but we give because God has been good to us, and we want to show our appreciation for all our blessings. And all of our blessings start out with the generosity of God who loves us, and blesses us. Show your love!
As we approach November, the month honoring the Poor Souls in Purgatory, or all of the deceased, we put out a “Book of Remembrance” for you to list those persons you want us to remember in our masses and prayers. We always pray for everyone in all of our masses throughout the whole world. However, this gives us an opportunity to mention those special persons in our own individual lives and recall their effects in our lives, and also their need for prayers. Some day, you and I will be among the number of deceased, and we might be in great need of prayers and intercessions. As we want the saints in heaven to pray for us now, and for all of us to pray for one another, so also we make a special effort during the month of November to recall that the Communion of Saints includes the living and the dead, those in heaven and those not in heaven. The book will be in the sanctuary by the Pieta Statue. After November, we keep the list on the main altar for a period of time. Again, we are called to live our faith, and work for heaven.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
" "Why don't we accept the cross the Lord gives to us? We look at everyone else's crosses and want to trade because ours is too heavy. Maybe it is not too heavy; maybe we are just carrying it the wrong way. Our cross should not be endured, it should be embraced. It is our way to salvation." " (Hope for the Journey, Fr. Jack Spalding.)
Visit Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration every Tuesday following the 8 AM Mass until 7 PM, and on Saturdays from 9-10 AM. If you would like to commit to a specific hour to pray on Tuesdays, please call Mary Ellen Mueller at 566-9529.

Dear Parents & Friends,
“The finest fruit of serious learning should be the ability to speak the word ‘God’ without reserve or embarrassment.” -Nathan Pusey
For more than 150 years, Holy Childhood has been able to pray and speak the word of God. This has happened with the sacrifices of many in large and small ways. We do not depend on government aid, and in terms of state aid, it is almost non-existent. To offer a Catholic education is a challenge, a challenge that is met by many people, young and old, in many ways. The Dinner Auction is one way that the school is helped by their fundraising. Not only the committee, but the many people and businesses that donated and spent money at the auction are appreciated. It is a lot of work by many yet the rewards are great! Thanks to everyone who made it a success. God bless you.
Sincerely, Deacon Ron Karcher Principal
