FATHER'S TWO CENTS WORTH
Again, this past week, we gave back to God one of our most faithful members of our parish in the person of Henry Bechtoldt. He was truly a gentleman—easy going, kind, caring, hard working, spirit filled, and a devout faithful member of our church. Henry was 85, and has had many challenges to his life. The last years he was challenged by his heart, and had several stays in the hospital, and procedures, trying to rectify it. However, one has to die to go to heaven, and Henry said that he was ready anytime. God took him last week-end, and we pray that Henry enjoys the fruit of his goodness and love of God.
Today, we have the special second collection for our cemetery. This will be an annual event in the month of November. It goes to the maintenance of the cemetery, and also improvements. We all want our cemetery to look nice as a sign of our love for the deceased. All we ask is your support and help in keeping it nice by removing unsightly decorations and flowers.
I have a special request. When a member of your family goes to the hospital, and you expect a priest to visit you or yours, please inform the rectory and to which hospital they are in. St. Elizabeth’s Hospital does not notify us because of their interpretation of the HIPPA rules. Memorial usually informs us if you list yourself as Catholic and of Holy Childhood Parish. However, we have missed several patients at Memorial because they were not listed as belonging to our parish. When we call and ask if anyone of our parish is in the hospital, they check their daily census report. If we have no one listed, we do not make a trip to the hospital. You have to help us help you. And you can do the same by telling us when they have come home, or have been transferred to some other place. And please, do call the rectory—not merely whenever you happen to see us. We too, can forget when we have many messages coming at us at one time.
I did not get to make my trip to Iowa this past week. I will try to worm it in later on.
It seems hard to believe that Advent begins in just two weeks, and Christmas is four weeks after that. Of course, the malls and shopping centers have been advertising to buy early so that you have first choice, and do not get left out. I wonder if we ever are as concerned about our spiritual gifts and life at Christmas, or even throughout the year, as we are about Christmas and Halloween—the two biggest spending times of the year. Get ready! The time to prepare for Christ’s coming is now, not later!
The Advent LITTLE BLUE BOOKS are available at the exits of church today and the next two Sundays. After that, we will take them to St. E’s Hospital for the patients.
Church Contribution Envelopes for 2011 are in the breezeway. Please pick your set up today. Deliver some to family and friends who are not here today. If your name is not there, or a family member of yours is not getting envelopes, inform the rectory. This is the main source of support for our parish church and school, and the services that we expect from our parish. With privileges goes responsibility!
2011 envelopes and little blue books are ready to be picked up in the breeze way.
HCCCW QUILT AND GROCERY RAFFLE: At our November 9th meeting, the winning names were drawn. They are Betty Norrenberns (Quilt); Leo and Alice Wilhelm ($100 Tom’s Groceries); and Mildred Hulliung ($50 Tom’s Groceries). The Bi-monthly Quilt winner for the November drawing is Steve Gardner.
