Christmas is all about the birth of a baby, a very special baby. Come and learn about the 3,700+ babies Small Victories Ministry has saved in the last 10 years at HCS H.O.P.E's Christmas Celebration in the cafeteria on Tuesday, December 7 at 7:00pm. Come and hear Angela and Dan Michael's story, see a live ultrasound, tour the "womb service" RV, games, and celebrate what Christmas is all about! The Holy Childhood Council of Catholic Women's Christmas party will be held on Sunday, December 12th, at 12 noon in the parish center. The dinner will be catered by Tony's Place; the cost is $9.50. You may make your reservation by putting cash or a check in either the church collection, dropping it off at the rectory or giving it to Ruth Wilhelm by December 5th. On the envelope, please put it to HCCCW, attention Ruth Wilhelm. If you pay in cash, please include your name. We will have a white elephant gift exchange for those who wish to participate. “Finding the Birth of Christ in the Old Testament” – Thurs, Dec. 2 (7 PM). "There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots." (Isaiah 11:1) As the Church prepares to enter into the liturgical season of Advent, a time of preparing for the birth of Christ, we welcome you to a night of contemplating Christ in the Scriptures. Join us in the Cathedral Undercroft as we seek to uncover the mystery of the birth of Christ—the Incarnation—as this most sacred event is foreshadowed in the Old Testament. Please bring your Bible!
St. Matthew’s Infancy Narratives Fr. Sean Martin, Associate Professor of Biblical Studies at Aquinas Institute of Theology, will be making a presentation on the infancy narratives in the Gospel of Matthew on Thursday, December 2, 2010 at 7pm in the St. Luke Parish Center, 226 N. Continuing a family tradition for over 35 years, The Masterworks Chorale, Children’s Choruses, and Orchestra will present “A Masterworks Christmas” at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 12, 2010 at Saint Clare Catholic Church, 1411 Cross St., in O’Fallon, Illinois. This joy-filled holiday concert will include new and favorite carols of the season, the voices of children, a candlelight procession, and an audience sing-along. The featured work on the program will be Hector Berlioz’s dramatic The Childhood of Christ, parts I/II and favorite carols by John Rutter. Letters from Santa has generously offered to raise money for children with cancer! This year for a $5 donation, he will be sending personalized letters to children—straight from the North Pole! All funds raised will benefit the National Children’s Cancer Society. Small Victories, an abortion intervention and pregnancy resource ministry, is in need of diapers, formula and gently used baby items (clothing, furniture, car seats). The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Belleville Council, desperately needs help with a new program – Beds for Kids. Many people who come for help have babies and children sleeping on the floor. While St. Vincent de Paul has purchased beds for many, the demand is simple, too great. If you, a family member or friend have a crib, toddler bed, twin or full-size bed (frame, mattress/box springs) you no longer need, please consider donating it to St. Vincent de Paul.
