FATHER'S TWO CENTS WORTH
Again, in the past eight days, we had to give back to God two members of the parish in the persons of Margaret Schlichter and Dorothy Lanter. Both were loyal members of Holy Childhood Parish, active in all phases possible, faith-filled and faithful to church and sacraments. Both were members of our Ladies’ Sodality and fun to be with. May God reward them for all the good they did, and bless their families.
Today is the beginning of Catholic Schools’ Week, which our own school will be high-lighting all week long. We are very proud of our school and for its academic achievements. Our Athletic Department has been active all along, and won two tournaments this past week. Our congratulations to all of our teachers and coaches who give themselves so generously to the students! Our thanks also to all of the parishioners and organizations that support our school, and make these successes possible.
Wednesday is the Feast of the Presentation of the Child Jesus into the Temple. It is also known as Candlemas—bringing the Light of Christ to the world. We will bless candles at this mass for church, and for home. If you have candles that you wish blessed, bring them to church and we will bless them at mass also.
Thursday is the Feast of St. Blasé. We will have blessing of the throats after mass for the adults attending mass that day. I will bless the school children later in the day at school. We will also give the blessing next Sunday at the masses.
Thursday is also mass at the Assisted Living at Silver Creek residence, and also at the Mar-ka Nursing home. I will also be anointing all of the Catholic residents at both places. The masses will be at 9:30 and 10:30 A.M. On Friday, at 10:00 A.M., I will be celebrating mass at the Grange Nursing Home, and anoint the Catholic residents there. After that, I will be making home calls to the shut-ins.
Next Sunday, we will have our quarterly Baptism Class in the parish center, beginning at 2:00 P.M. This is for all who need the Sacrament of Baptism for a child, but have not attended the class in the past two years. We should be finished around 3:30 P.M.
I want to congratulate the twelve couples who made the Marriage Retreat last Sunday at the Shrine of Our Lady of Snows. I understand that the speaker was tremendous and powerful, and very uplifting. I made part of the Saturday and Sunday events—I got there in time for the food—good meals, and for the dialogue that followed among the participants. No one had to get up and make a presentation of any sort. Just a time to get together, talk about marriage, learn from one another, get away from home and the kids one evening, really talk with your partner, enriched from the presentations, and come home assured of your love for one another, enriched in God’s blessings. Learning from one another makes life easier and happier!
Pray for the sick and the elderly! We all need one another in this area!
