FATHER'S TWO CENTS WORTH
Again, our parish returns to God one of his faithful servants in the person of James Rakers. Jim died last Tuesday, and was buried this past Friday. Jim was always available to help out here at the parish, living in the next block. Before we had the bells electrified, his boys were ringing the church bells for all the masses. When they could not make it, Jim would do the job. One of the boys turned the bell over from pulling too hard, and Jim went up and rolled it back over so it would ring. I could always count on him to help me when I needed him. A prayerful man, filled with faith, and devoted to the sacraments, may God reward him for his goodness, his faith, his family values, good example, and love of Holy Childhood Parish. May he rest in peace!
This Sunday, today, the Knights of Columbus are having a breakfast in the school cafeteria to benefit our Holy Childhood Cemetery—from 8 A.M. to 12.00. Your support will be greatly appreciated for their efforts, and for taking care of our cemetery.
Next Sunday is our Parish Pre-Cana Day in the Parish Center. Pre-Cana is a Marriage Preparation Program that explores most of the “nitty-gritty” issues that can come up in a seemingly happy marriage. It stresses Godly values, and the need of prayer and a living faith. Sad to say, more time is exerted on the event—the externals, the reception, the showers, the “show” than on the need for God at the event, and throughout their lives. Our most precious treasure is our soul—it lasts into eternity. We need God’s help to travel that road, in fact, any road to eternity. Please pray for the presenters, and for all of those couples who will be attending, that they will let God be their guide and help.
I want to thank all who renewed their subscriptions to the Diocesan paper, the Messenger. I also want to thank all who entered a new subscription. There is a lot of information about our local church, our world church, and articles on faith and the Sunday Scriptures in each issue. It is a good help to a “light in the world.”
Since Fr. Abraham is back, and we welcome him back, I am going to see my brother in Iowa. He fell last week at the assisted living home, and fractured his skull. He is now in the nursing home recuperating. We hope this is temporary and that he can soon go back to assisted living. At the present, he is depressed. I am hoping that I can help him get back to normal. (Normal?—neither of us were too normal—just fun-loving.) I will be back on Friday. Pray that I have a good trip both ways—6-7 hrs. each way.
I want to thank several members of our parish who gave of themselves to clear the snow off of our parking lot, sidewalks, and the school playgrounds so that we could have some safety in coming to church. Dan Beck was here Saturday morning while his son was in Server’s Training, and cleaned around the church block. Matt Stukenberg brought in his Bobcat, and cleaned the church parking lot. John Hulliung brought in his Grass-hopper Snow blower and widened out all of our sidewalks and wherever needed. Sunday, Doug and Christina Mugele brought in their Bobcat and shovels, and cleared the school playground. There was still some ice under all of this snow, but they sure did a great job and the whole parish owes them a prayer and thanks for their caring attitude. THANKS, EVERYONE!

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
" It is very important for us to come to a better understanding of how to be really present to the Lord, in the present moment. We need to trust that He knows what He is doing. If we could go before Him in the Blessed Sacrament and say very simply, 'Here I am, Lord; I am concerned about this, so I offer it to you. I offer me to you,' we then allow Him to take care of us. We allow Him to answer our prayers instead of telling Him what we want Him to do."
Visit Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration every Tuesday following the 8 AM Mass until 7 PM, and on Saturdays from 9-10 AM. If you would like to commit to a specific hour to pray on Tuesdays, please call Mary Ellen Mueller at 566-9529.

Love One Another--Since Sunday, February 13th is World Marriage Day, we will delve into what Scripture and the Church have to say about this beautiful institution. The theme of this year's World Marriage Day is "Love one another." We will reflect on how these words of Christ apply to husband and wife in the sacrament of marriage, with special emphasis on how children are the fruit of their love. Come join us for this study and discussion of marriage in the Cathedral Undercroft on Thursday evening, February 17 at 7:00PM.
