FATHER'S TWO CENTS WORTH
I arrived back Thursday evening at 9:00 P.M. My brother must have had a couple of TIAs, and it has affected his short term memory, as well connecting his thoughts. Sometimes he can hear you well and converse, and at other times you do not know where he is coming from. He asked me what I wanted for a wedding gift and I asked him who I was marrying. He had no answer. I told him who I was, and he just looked at me. It is sad, but who would have thought it would be going this way? I can’t call him any more since he has no phone, and you do not know where he is mentally. So it goes!
Willetta Stibal passed away this week. I took communion to her at her home for many years before she went to the nursing home and then at the home for many years. May she rest in peace!
When I was a child, I always wanted to put something in the collection basket. I see that happening often here in church, and at other places. The children want to bring a gift to the mass. At one parish I visited, Father comes down in front of the altar with a big basket and the little ones come up and put in their gift. (This is before the ushers take up the collection in the usual manner.) The little ones bring their gifts to the altar proudly and run back to their pews proudly, and moms and dads have a big smile on their faces. I talked this over with several persons, and we are going to start this in our parish. After the Prayers of the Faithful, the priest will come down to the front step and invite the little ones to bring up their offering. When they are finished, the ushers will take up the gift from the rest of the congregation. At the 10:30 mass, we will do it when we call the children up for the blessing before Breaking Open of the Word. We are hoping to develop the awareness of bring a gift to the altar to represent myself and my appreciation for all of God’s blessings that I enjoy. Hopefully, it will continue into the rest of their lives—to bring a gift to the mass in thanksgiving for all we have. Starts next Sunday!
Today is Scout Sunday! Thanks to all who support this program with their time and efforts! May all of our scouts grow up to be persons we can all be proud of!
Today is also Pre-Cana Marriage Instruction Day in the parish center. Pray for the presenters and for all who are participating, that their marriages will be blessed and lead them to heaven.
Still reminding you of your Messenger subscription—renewal or first time! It brings us much knowledge about our faith, our local and world church. And it is much cheaper than your daily paper. The News Democrat renewal for a year is over $250. Granted it is a daily paper, but it does not give us the information that we need to get to heaven.
Thank you for all the cards and gifts this past week on the occasion of my birthday. My desk is in shambles with the mail that I received while I was gone. However, there are a great number of birthday cards in there and I am grateful to those who sent them. (For your information, I turned seventy-eight.) The mind is young yet, but the body, especially the legs, are getting old and achy. However they have suffered much over time, considering the burden they carried. I want to make them work longer still.
SHEPHERD SUNDAY FEBRUARY 27TH The Mascoutah Concerned Christians Food Pantry needs the following items this month: egg noodles, white rice, Hamburger Helper, peanut butter, pancake syrup, canned chicken & dumplings. Thank you for supporting the food pantry.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
" It is very important for us to come to a better understanding of how to be really present to the Lord, in the present moment. We need to trust that He knows what He is doing. If we could go before Him in the Blessed Sacrament and say very simply, 'Here I am, Lord; I am concerned about this, so I offer it to you. I offer me to you,' we then allow Him to take care of us. We allow Him to answer our prayers instead of telling Him what we want Him to do."
Visit Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration every Tuesday following the 8 AM Mass until 7 PM, and on Saturdays from 9-10 AM. If you would like to commit to a specific hour to pray on Tuesdays, please call Mary Ellen Mueller at 566-9529.
