FATHER'S TWO CENTS WORTH

Last week, we told you about the Children’s Offering Collection.  In case you were not here, the purpose is to develop a mentality of bringing a gift to mass in thanksgiving for all of the blessings God gives us—a gift of appreciation.  Top limit would be fourth grade students.  Older ones can put theirs in the regular collection.  This collection would be taken up prior to the regular collection at the 5:30 P.M. and 8:00 A.M. masses.  At the 10:30 mass, it would be taken at the time we gather for the “Breaking Open the Word”. This does not mean that the child has to go to class.  IF YOU WANT ENVELOPES FOR YOUR CHILDREN, BOXES OF ENVELOPES WILL BE AT THE EXITS OF CHURCH.  PUT YOUR CHILD’S NAME ON THE ENVELOPES.  The Pastoral Council feels that this would be a great way to incorporate the children in the mass—their offering of themselves to God.

The Pre-Cana Team thanks you for your prayers last week, and for the support you have given to them over the years.  The participants felt that it was a great day for them.

Next weekend is the Diocesan Youth Conference at Collinsville—Saturday and Sunday.  It will be a time for them to grow in knowledge of their faith, in knowledge of other youth in our Diocese, and how they can make our CYO more effective and wholesome.  We ask your prayers for these young persons of our parish and for their leaders and chaperones.

Believe it or not, Lent begins on March 9th—less than two weeks away.  We will be distributing the “Little Black Books” for Lenten reading, along with “The Word Among Us” books, which have the Lenten daily masses included.  With the latter, you can read the daily Scriptures used at mass, as well as a daily meditation.  They are free for your use.  You might want to pass one on to someone you know.

Our Spring Blood Drive for the Red Cross will be on Thursday, March 10th—the day after Ash Wednesday.  It is a good way to start off Lent with a sacrifice of your own blood to save the lives of others.  Jesus did it for us and for our sins!  Can we join Him and do it for others also?  Location is in the School Cafeteria, from 2 P.M. to 7 P.M.

Our “Make-Up” drive will be on Saturday, March 19th, in the Parish Center.  The school is being occupied by a QUEST event.  Our “make-up” drive is usually for a smaller goal—to pick up those who could not make the first drive, or to give those who tried the first drive and were deferred, a second chance.  This drive runs from 9 A.M. to 2 P.M.

A little boy was overheard praying:

“Lord, if you can’t make me a better boy, don’t worry about it.

I’m having a real good time like I am.’”

After the christening of his baby brother in church, Jason sobbed all the way home in the back seat of the car.

His father asked him three times what was wrong.

Finally the boy replied, “That priest said he wanted us brought up in a Christian home, and I want to stay with you guys.”

The Second Annual Catholic Women for Christ Conference is being held on Saturday, March 5th at America’s Center in downtown St. Louis.  Parishioners of Holy Childhood parish will be carpooling to this event. Are you over-due for a relaxing weekend of peace, quiet, great food, and spiritual nourishment?  Take some time away and join other women from the parish for a retreat on March 18-20 at the King's House Retreat and Renewal Center in Belleville.  Contact Mary Elmore at 566-7315 for further information or to register.  Office phone 566-2922.

ATTENTION FRESHMEN AND SOPHOMORES:  Coming up March 19-20, there will be a Quest experience held at Holy Childhood Parish in Mascoutah, IL.  For more information / applications contact your pastor, religion teacher, or youth minister.  The fee is $35 per student. Parish assistance is available.

EASTER FLOWER MEMORIALS:  With Easter being late this year (April 24), the envelope (Mar 6), in your church envelope box, for the Easter Flower Memorials is over a month early.  Even though it is early, we will start receiving your donations at this time. For $10.00, you can list one or two individual names or one or two family names.  The Holy Childhood Counsel of Catholic Women (HCCCW) is sponsoring this program.  The money is used for the purchasing of the Easter Flowers and any other items needed for the altar. For your convenience, you can use the Easter Flower envelope, dated Mar 6, or use a white envelope and address it to HCCCW.  Make sure you list who the memorial is for and the donor's name on the envelope. Please make checks out to HCCCW. Donations are needed by April 18, to insure your loved one’s names are included on the list displayed at all entrances in the church. For more information, contact Pat Bowker, 566-7089.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

We need to go to the Lord first, continually and last.

When we are sad, He is our consolation. When we have no joy, He brings us hope.

When we are weak, He is our strength.

When we are frightened, He is our courage.

He heals us when we need to be healed, and fills us with all that we need, when we go to Him.

He will not impose His will upon us.

We decide, ourselves, whether or not to be open to the Lord and to all the incredible gifts He gives.

Visit Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration  every Tuesday following the 8 AM Mass until 7 PM,

and on Saturdays from 9-10 AM.

If you would like to commit to a specific hour to pray on Tuesdays,

please call Mary Ellen Mueller at 566-9529.
