FATHER'S TWO CENTS WORTH
Well, I guess that many are getting their homes cleaned up for Easter—Spring Cleaning they used to call it. We used to have a day set aside for that here in the parish when a huge group of persons would come in, and do a complete cleaning of the church—the woodwork, the Altars, pews, floors—it was an all day job. And then as fewer and fewer cleaners came, and the job was still as extensive, it has passed by for the most part. However, we do have spring cleaning of our souls—Reconciliation, Penance Services and Confessions beginning this week. I am helping out at St. Libory on Monday at 7 P.M. for their communal Penance Service. Holy Childhood Penance Service will be on Tuesday at 7 P.M., St. Nicholas in O’Fallon on Wednesday, and St. Clare on Thursday at 7 P.M. The last three parishes will have at least six confessors and eight in O’Fallon. So everyone will have an opportunity somewhere. We will also hear confessions next Saturday from 3 to 5 P.M. Cathedral will have confessions on next Sunday from one to 5 P.M., Fr. Voss and I having 4-5 P.M.
Next Sunday begins Holy Week with the blessing of Palms and Procession at the 10:30 mass. Palms will also be blessed at the other masses. Holy Week schedule will be in next week-ends bulletin.
You have to be proud! My job as pastor is to check the bank reports for all of the organizations, by diocesan rules. Last week, I noticed on the CYO report that they forwarded $2000 to the Catholic Urban Program. This was money they raised at Christmas when they went caroling and from the “Souper Bowl” collection that they took up on Super Bowl Sunday. You have to admire their dedication, and also the care and dedication of the Adult Leaders who motivate and support these youth in their good works. Granted, not all of the youth participated! But for those who did and carry on the good reputation, and make things happen, we hope that your good works will inspire others to be more dedicated, and involved. God bless all of you!
Many thanks to all who have supported the Catholic Services and Mission Appeal so far. On the dollar side, we have reached our goal. But on the number of participants, we are still short about fifty participants from last year’s number. Our ultimate purpose of the CSMA is to carry out Christ’s mandate to “love God above all things, and to love our neighbor as ourselves.” We want to keep our Catholic Church present and caring in the many parts of our diocese that we serve. As someone said, if we talk the talk, we must also walk the walk. Please help us to spread the faith and to show God’s love to those less fortunate than ourselves. Support the Catholic Services and Mission Appeal.
Our Eighth Grade class takes its annual “Skip Trip” to Chicago this coming Thursday and Friday. Slip in a few extra prayers for the kids and their chaperones that all will go well for them, that they have a good time, and that they return home safe and sound.
Again, thanks to all who have been attending the Lenten mass and Stations! Wednesday morning, before I started mass in the morning, I counted about 40 persons in church. And then there were those who came in the evening. And Friday’s attendance has been admirable. Thanks for making Lent a blessing to you.

LENTEN REGULATIONS
Each year the Lord Jesus calls the entire Church to a special season of penance and renewal. As we begin this holy time of Lent, we should reflect on our need for conversion of heart, prayer, charitable works and Penance.
1. All Catholics who are 14 years of age and older are to observe the penitential practice of abstinence which consists of refraining from the consumption of meat. Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and the Fridays during Lent are days of abstinence. 2. In addition to abstinence, fasting is to be observed by all Catholics between the ages of 18-59 years (inclusive). Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fasting. 3. On days of fasting and abstinence, one full meal is allowed. Two smaller meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids are allowed. 4. If a person is unable to observe the above regulation due to ill health or other serious reasons, they are urged to practice other forms of self-denial that are suitable to their condition. 5. Because Lent is a special season for all Christians, we should not lightly excuse ourselves from these penitential practices. 6. To completely disregard the law of fasting and abstinence is seriously sinful. 7. Pastors and parents are encouraged to see that children who are not bound by the obligation to fast and abstain are led to appreciate an authentic sense of penance.
Stations of the Cross HCCCW will host Friday at 5:30 pm, April 15th.
YOU ARE INVITED…….to a celebration of life! The Holy Childhood CYO invites you to a baby shower they are hosting for a special child of God----one who was spared from abortion because of their pro-life ministry at Granite City. EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
"We need to go to the Lord first, continually and last. When we are sad, He is our consolation. When we have no joy, He brings us hope. When we are weak, He is our strength. When we are frightened, He is our courage. He heals us when we need to be healed, and fills us with all that we need, when we go to Him. He will not impose His will upon us. We decide, ourselves, whether or not to be open to the Lord and to all the incredible gifts He gives. "
Visit Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration every Tuesday following the 8 AM Mass until 7 PM, and on Saturdays from 9-10 AM. If you would like to commit to a specific hour to pray on Tuesdays, please call Mary Ellen Mueller at 566-9529.
