FATHER'S TWO CENTS WORTH
Well, now half of the year is over as we begin July. Our fiscal year is complete, and now we have to get the parish books in order to report what we did in the past year, make a new budget for this coming year, plan on income to support our parish and our school, and all of the other items that go into operations of a parish. It also means that one third of the vacation is over, that the parish picnic is eight weeks away, and that Mascoutah Homecoming is four weeks away. All of us also got older and thank God for that. Otherwise we would not be alive, right? So happy New Year! Many thanks to Ray Klein, Jason Klein, “Butch” Klein, Jamie Schanz, Larry Wilhelm, Paul Schanz, Terry Norrenberns, and the Spaeth Welding Co. from New Baden, for taking out two overgrown trees, and trimming all of the shrubs around the parish rectory, and church last weekend, and disposing of it. The place looks great, and you did a great job again. This is an annual project for this team, and we are grateful to them. The last report on the Catholic Services and Mission Appeal for our parish shows that the parishioner pledged or donated $50,796.11 to this special need of our diocese. 203 donors volunteered to make this gift possible. Our target goal was $33, ---.—and so we greatly exceeded that goal. Our participation goal was 215 donors, which we did not meet. It means that fewer gave more this year for the work of the church in our diocese. Thanks to all who gave to this special appeal. May God bless you for your generosity! As we move on in the year, we also come closer to the beginning of a new class for our RCIA program, which begins in September. As you might remember, this is a program to help those who want to join the church to properly prepare them to be a member of our faith community. It is also a time for those who were baptized, but never raised Catholic, or received a minimum of Catholic education to refresh, or catch-up on what the church really is and what it means in our lives. You could be the person who could benefit from this program! Or maybe you know a person or persons, who could benefit from such a program. “Come back to the Church,” “enrich your faith,” “find the truth”—all of these are names that have one goal—to help us to know, love, and serve our God in the best way possible, and thereby get to heaven. Contact the rectory if you know of any one, or yourself, interested to be in the program. We welcome your input! We are at the Fourth of July Weekend! Did you know that skin cancer accounts for about half of all U.S. cancers? It is true! Each year the number of new cases exceeds that of breast, colon, lung and prostate cancer. About one in five Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime (Consumer Reports on Health, Vol. 23, #7). With the hot weather now coming into full force, and many more concerned about getting a tan, or not concerned about their skin, the risk of skin cancer rises greatly for men and women, and children. Please do not be presumptuous! It can happen to any of us, and when it happens, it often leaves disfigurement, and sometimes fatal results. Sunscreen is the third line of defense after (1) protective clothing, and (2) staying out of the midday sun. There are many sick and elderly persons to pray for in our parish. Please pray for Deacon Don Deitz, who has not fully recovered from his surgeries.
MASS OF ANOINTING coffee and donuts will be served in the parish center after the Mass of Anointing on Saturday, July 9th.
CYO Trash pick-up has been rescheduled for Saturday, July 9th. Meet at HCS at 7:30 am.
Gift Cards Holy Childhood School continues to sell gift cards during the summer months. Gift cards can be purchased at school during the summer office hours and at church after weekend masses. Contact Debbie Bunn at 566-2866 with any questions. Thank you for your support.

Dear Holy Childhood School & Church Families, As many of you are already aware, the Adam and Amy Uptergrove family is going through a lot with their youngest daughter, Olivia, who is 5 months of age. She is finally home after being in the hospital for over 60 days. She has been diagnosed with a rare auto immune disease that causes aneurysms not only in the coronary arteries, but also other arteries throughout the body. This condition is extremely rare in infants, and requires daily visits back to Children's Hospital to be monitored and treated. In order to assist and bless their family in a very practical way, it has been decided to set up a meal registry for them. This will allow Amy & Adam to concentrate not only on Baby Olivia, but on their other 3 daughters, ages 7, 6, and 3. If you are interested in providing a meal for the Uptergrove's, we have set up a website that will coordinate all the meals. All you need to do is to go to the website: http://mealbaby.com/viewregistry/509650, and set up a FREE account with an email and password. Then click on their registry to view the calendar of dates available, choose a date, and type in what you will be bringing them. Gift cards for gas or to local grocery stores such as "Shop N Save" and "Schnucks" would greatly be appreciated too as well as cash or check donations, since the medical expenses continue to accumulate. You can mail those directly to Adam & Amy Uptergrove at: 254 Eastbrook Drive, Belleville, IL 62221. Finally, whether or not you are able to assist with a gift of a meal, gift card or donation at this time, most importantly we ask that you PLEASE keep Baby Olivia, her family and caregivers in your thoughts and prayers. As a church family of faith, this is a simple, yet powerful thing we can do to help them. They are VERY grateful and humbled by all the prayers and support they have been given thus far. Thank you in advance for your generosity! If you have any questions, please let us know!
Blessings, Judy Schneider & Ronda Beck

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
"We need to go to the Lord first, continually and last. When we are sad, He is our consolation. When we have no joy, He brings us hope. When we are weak, He is our strength. When we are frightened, He is our courage. He heals us when we need to be healed, and fills us with all that we need, when we go to Him. He will not impose His will upon us. We decide, ourselves, whether or not to be open to the Lord and to all the incredible gifts He gives. "
Visit Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration every Tuesday following the 8 AM Mass until 7 PM, and on Saturdays from 9-10 AM. If you would like to commit to a specific hour to pray on Tuesdays, please call Mary Ellen Mueller at 566-9529.
