FATHER'S TWO CENTS WORTH
Many, many thanks to all of the parishioners who volunteered time and material for Vacation Bible School, sponsored by St. John’s U.C.C., Bethel Methodist and Holy Childhood Parish. We are grateful to the other two churches for hosting the event at their facilities. We did it once here at HC, and it generated a problem in getting school ready for the following September. It put us behind over two weeks in cleaning and waxing and painting in school. So we are very grateful to the other churches for offering their facilities and allowing us to share with them. Holy Childhood usually has the majority of participants in the program, and we try to do our share in involvement and finances. Thanks everyone, who gave so generously of your time, talent and treasure.
Last Sunday was the first time in over a month that we met our weekly goal of $10,000 to support our parish. We have been lagging behind in the $7,000 area, and that detains us from meeting our budget for church, school and payroll. I ask all of the parishioners to conscientiously support your parish in accord with the gifts that God has given you in time, talent and treasure. As the Body of Christ, we need everyone to be doing their job well, just as we want all the parts of our human body to function well. When that does not happen in our human body, we have illness and we do not like that, do we?
Mascoutah Homecoming is quickly approaching and Holy Childhood Parish runs the Hot Dog and Hamburger stand on Friday night, Saturday and Sunday. It takes many hands to meet the demands of the public throughout the day. It is also a time to show our spirit of Parish family participation, and a chance to meet and get to know more people. If you have not signed up for “duty”, please contact Jimmy Amann at 235-4199 for a time slot.
Many thanks to all those who have been coming to weekday mass here at church! WE all want the blessings of God in our daily lives. And it seems that when sickness or some trouble confronts us, then we can find time to come to mass and pray. It is almost like “locking the barn door after the horse is stolen.” Most of us would say it is wiser to lock the barn door, or any door, before the damage is done. The same applies to our spiritual life and our physical life. We all can be “OH” so conscientious about our physical health, and negligent about our spiritual life which fires our physical life. The spiritual life gets us to heaven, the physical life gets us around here on earth. Come pray with us at church and come to mass, or adoration on Tuesdays.
Picnic is quickly approaching. We will be getting our raffle tickets in the very near future, and we ask you to purchase them yourself, or to ask your friends to purchase tickets. The success of the ticket raffle is money in the bank, regardless of what the weather brings us. Publicity is also very important, and we need all of you to tell your friends about our coming Fish-Fry on Friday, August 26th, with dance and live bands, and the picnic, chicken-supper, and bingo, on Saturday, August 27th. I also ask you to start praying for good weather for both nights. If we do not have that blessing, and it can work that way, we are hurting for the coming year to meet our financial obligations. So we can all pray for good weather, from the youngest to the oldest members of our parish.
SHEPHERD SUNDAY July 24th The Mascoutah Concerned Christians Food Pantry needs the following items this month: cereal, pancake mix (complete), graham crackers, Sloppy Joe sauce, egg noodles, powdered milk. Donated items may be placed in the basket at the west entrance of the church. Thank you for supporting the food pantry.
Gift Cards Holy Childhood School sells gift cards at face value to a variety of local retail stores, restaurants and gas stations. The cards can been given as gifts or used for your own purchases. Stop by the Gathering Space after mass to purchase gift cards or just to see the cards that we have in stock. The HCS students, faculty and staff thank you for your support.
PSR—First Communion students can pick up their individual pictures at the church office Monday—Friday from 9-4. Please call first. 618-566-2958.
BAPTISM CLASS Our next baptism class is scheduled for August 21st in the parish center from 2-3:30 PM.
We are looking for families to volunteer to host Welcome Sunday. This would entail handing out name tags at the 8 and 10:30 Masses on Welcome Sunday held once a month, and to participate in the after Mass celebration. Please contact the rectory if you would like to volunteer for one month out of the year.
Dear Holy Childhood School & Church Families, As many of you are already aware, the Adam and Amy Uptergrove family is going through a lot with their youngest daughter, Olivia, who is 5 months of age. She is finally home after being in the hospital for over 60 days. She has been diagnosed with a rare auto immune disease that causes aneurysms not only in the coronary arteries, but also other arteries throughout the body. This condition is extremely rare in infants, and requires daily visits back to Children's Hospital to be monitored and treated. In order to assist and bless their family in a very practical way, it has been decided to set up a meal registry for them. This will allow Amy & Adam to concentrate not only on Baby Olivia, but on their other 3 daughters, ages 7, 6, and 3. If you are interested in providing a meal for the Uptergrove's, we have set up a website that will coordinate all the meals. All you need to do is to go to the website: http://mealbaby.com/viewregistry/509650, and set up a FREE account with an email and password. Then click on their registry to view the calendar of dates available, choose a date, and type in what you will be bringing them. Gift cards for gas or to local grocery stores such as "Shop N Save" and "Schnucks" would greatly be appreciated too as well as cash or check donations, since the medical expenses continue to accumulate. You can mail those directly to Adam & Amy Uptergrove at: 254 Eastbrook Drive, Belleville, IL 62221. Finally, whether or not you are able to assist with a gift of a meal, gift card or donation at this time, most importantly we ask that you PLEASE keep Baby Olivia, her family and caregivers in your thoughts and prayers. As a church family of faith, this is a simple, yet powerful thing we can do to help them. They are VERY grateful and humbled by all the prayers and support they have been given thus far. Thank you in advance for your generosity! If you have any questions, please let us know!
Blessings, Judy Schneider & Ronda Beck

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
"We need to go to the Lord first, continually and last. When we are sad, He is our consolation. When we have no joy, He brings us hope. When we are weak, He is our strength. When we are frightened, He is our courage. He heals us when we need to be healed, and fills us with all that we need, when we go to Him. He will not impose His will upon us. We decide, ourselves, whether or not to be open to the Lord and to all the incredible gifts He gives. "
Visit Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration every Tuesday following the 8 AM Mass until 7 PM, and on Saturdays from 9-10 AM. If you would like to commit to a specific hour to pray on Tuesdays, please call Mary Ellen Mueller at 566-9529.

St. Vincent de Paul Needs School Uniforms and School Supplies Most schools, both parochial and public, now require a specific school uniform as well as shoes for all students. Frequently, low-income families cannot afford new uniforms. The Belleville Council Society of St. Vincent de Paul tries to provide used school uniforms and new school supplies to underprivileged children throughout the area. We collect supplies and gently used uniforms all year long, but of course the greatest need is in August when children are heading back to school. IF YOU HAVE UNIFORMS (Catholic or public school uniforms) OR SCHOOL SUPPLIES THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO DONATE, PLEASE CONTACT THE SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL AT 618-394-3568 AND LEAVE YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION ON EXTENSION 2; or you may call Pat Hogrebe at 618-799-8505, or Joe Hubbard at 618-398-5616. Thank you so much.
