FATHER'S TWO CENTS WORTH

July is half over already,  and this year is half past.  Christmas is closer to us now than last New Year’s Day.  And eternity is getting closer by the minute, by the second.  And we do not know where it will happen, when it will happen, or how it will happen.  It is all in the hands of God.  With so much at stake, such as eternity, one would think that we would be very concerned how our progress is going on the road to heaven.  How well do we pray?  How much do we pray?  When do we pray?  Mass?  Reconciliation?  When the alarm goes off, we cannot recapture the lost time.  Please make good time of this summer and all of the days ahead.  There is so much to pray for!

I know that I sound repetitious when I speak about the Homecoming and our Parish Picnic.  The Hamburger Stand at the Homecoming is a symbol of our parish working together, a symbol of care for the community and the facilities that we all enjoy.  When I write about involvement in this event, it is a sign of Christ working in and through us to make a better world, and to care for our neighbor.  And we all are blessed when these events are successful financially and community- wise.

The same applies to our Parish Picnic and the Fish Fry the night before.  This event is a big item in our parish budget—supporting our school and keeping the parish church and facilities and operations going.  We all want the availability of these conveniences when we need them.  It takes the total support of our parishioners to make it happen.  When you see the other picnic announcements in this bulletin, please take them to heart and do what you can do.  To absent yourself is not loving your neighbor as yourself.

Many thanks to Tom Norrenberns for mowing the church block, to Jeremy Schanz for mowing around school, to Don Haas for mowing around the parking lot, to John Hulliung for keeping the mowers running, and the blades sharp, and for edging around the parish block, to Jeremy Bunn for watering the flowers on the East Side of the Church, and to anyone else that I may have missed in caring for our grounds.  All of these are volunteers and we very much appreciate their dedication and their time.

This past Thursday, I made a trip down to Daystar Food Pantry in Cairo, with a load of frozen foods from a parishioner to help feed the poor.  Cairo was hit hard by the high water last month, as we all know from TV and the papers, and the people have been in need of food.  Sherry Miller, the director of Daystar, thanks the parish for our monthly support, and for all of this food.  The Daystar program works in Alexander and Pulaski counties, which are the two poorest counties in the state of Illinois.

Please pray for all of the sick, the elderly, the shut-ins and those who take care of them.  Pray for our doctors, nurses, aides, technicians—all who take care of the sick, that they are blessed in all they do. Give them the wisdom to make the right decisions and the skills to do their work well.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

"We need to go to the Lord first, continually and last.

When we are sad, He is our consolation.

When we have no joy, He brings us hope.

When we are weak, He is our strength.

When we are frightened, He is our courage.

He heals us when we need to be healed,

and fills us with all that we need, when we go to Him.

He will not impose His will upon us.

We decide, ourselves, whether or not to be open to the Lord and to all the incredible gifts He gives. "

Visit Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration  every Tuesday following the 8 AM Mass until 7 PM,

and on Saturdays from 9-10 AM.

If you would like to commit to a specific hour to pray on Tuesdays,
