FATHER'S TWO CENTS WORTH
Thank you, thank you, all who volunteered to work in the Hamburger Stand last weekend at the Homecoming. It was a great showing of dedication to our parish, and also to the success of the Homecoming. Jimmy Amann told me that he had so many volunteers that he had to tell some he could not use them, but if they saw that there was a need, to come in and help out. I was there on Friday and Saturday evenings, and you were doing your job magnificently. In fact, you did the job so well that Jim sat around and prided himself on what a great job he did. Thanks also to those who came first shift, and got everything set up, organized, and going. Experience speaks for itself! And God was good to us in the weather that He sent us. Thanks also to the Scouts and their leaders for cleaning up on the “mornings after.” Thanks also to those who worked the parades and displayed what an active and great parish we have at Holy Childhood.
Monday is the Feast of the Assumption of Mary. It is a major feast of the Church, one of the seven Holy Days of Obligation. However, since it is on a Monday, it remains a major Holy Day, but not one under obligation of attending or committing a mortal sin. It is a day that we honor Mary’s being taken into heaven and the first to receive the reward of eternal life and all of its glory because of holiness and dedication to the will of God. It is also a day to show our love for Mary in what she did for us, and still does for us as our mother and intercessor. We will have masses on Monday at 6:30 A.M., 8:00 A.M., and 7:30 P.M. If you can attend, please do so to show your love and appreciation for Mary, our mother, Christ’s Mother, and the mother of the church.
On Thursday of this week, we will have our Annual August Red Cross Blood Drive. We have moved it up to before the picnic, so that, respecting the 56 days interval between giving blood, we can work in a drive in early November, and still maintain our Christmas Blood Drive. Many of our regular blood donors have received a card from the Red Cross. You will probably get one from me this week, and a phone call to again remind you of the importance of giving blood to save lives. This is one gift that does not cost anything, except the time to give blood. It is the one item that we have not been able to artificially manufacture to take the place of blood and its components. That is why we need donors. If you gave at school, come and give this time before school. If you have never given, give it a try. It is a way to feel proud of yourself, and be a hero!
Picnic is quickly approaching—two weeks away. These two weeks are crucial weeks that need the most promoting. People forget too quickly, and that is why we need to remind them of the picnic and invite them to come. Thanks to Mike Amann and His helpers who got out the signs along the highways. They were out before the Homecoming and so all the visitors were alerted to our big days. There is other information in this bulletin from our picnic chairman, and other stand chairpersons.
Again, pray for all of the sick and elderly in our parish, and for those who do not even know that they are not well. Pray also for good weather for the picnic. Pray for our parish that we may all grow in the image and likeness of Christ, loving God above all things, and our neighbor as ourselves.
Please return your filled baskets for the picnic and place them in the breezeway by August 21st. There are still empty baskets at each entrance of Church. These baskets are used in our picnic stands. Please take one and fill it up. Your generosity is much appreciated!
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO WORK at the picnic! Please call 566-2958 to sign up if you have not already been contacted. Your help is greatly needed to make our picnic a success!
NEW ROMAN MISSAL CHANGES COMING The Adult Education and Liturgy Committee met on July 20th to discuss the changes in the New Roman Missal which becomes effective on November 27th, 2011. The committees have outlined various activities, including programs, reading materials and informational articles that will ease our transition to the New Mass. As the weeks go on you will find information in the bulletin, music changes will be introduced each month beginning in September, and each parishioner will receive a pamphlet on September 14th and homilies may include some instruction as well. Of special interest will be three one-hour sessions in church which will include not only instructions but also a “mock mass.” These sessions will be held on the 3rd Monday of September, October and November; ie., September 19th, October 17th and November 21st.

Much is happening and the rest of the parish would like to be aware of the activities and opportunities available. The Church Chatter was established 12 years ago to answer this need. Our mission is to spread parish news to all registered parishioners, Linda Zacharski: kzacharski@charter.net or call 566-8022.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
"We need to go to the Lord first, continually and last. When we are sad, He is our consolation. When we have no joy, He brings us hope. When we are weak, He is our strength. When we are frightened, He is our courage. He heals us when we need to be healed, and fills us with all that we need, when we go to Him. He will not impose His will upon us. We decide, ourselves, whether or not to be open to the Lord and to all the incredible gifts He gives. "
Visit Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration every Tuesday following the 8 AM Mass until 7 PM, and on Saturdays from 9-10 AM. If you would like to commit to a specific hour to pray on Tuesdays, please call Mary Ellen Mueller at 566-9529.
