FATHER'S TWO CENTS WORTH

Many thanks and God’s blessings to all who took the time to attend mass last Monday.  It was the Feast of the Assumption, and although not a mass of obligation this year, it was Mary’s feast and our feast –the gift of eternal life in heaven.  God bless all of you.

Our Blood Drive went over its goal this past Thursday.  It seems they keep lowering the goal each time.  At first it was 75 units, and then was lowered to 63 for this trip.  We had 81 persons to come according to their records (ours showed 86, but some left because they could not wait any longer).  Seventy units were taken (two first-time donors).  Help for setting up and taking down was meager, but blood donors helped the loading out process.  Thanks to all who made the day a success.  Our “Make-Up” drive will be on Saturday, September 3rd from 9 A.M. to 2 P.M.  Make plans to come if you missed this past drive.

PICNIC WEEK:  VERY IMPORTANT FOR ALL TO BE INVOLVED!  IT IS FOR OUR PARISH AND OUR SCHOOL!    Monday, we begin setting-up the bingo stands and all of the other stands.  Begin at 6:00 P.M.   TUESDAY, continue the work, setting up light poles, trash-barrels, lighting, etc.  WEDNESDAY; odds and ends!  THURSDAY,  last minute items;  FRIDAY,  FISH-FRY AND LIVE BAND MUSIC, BEGINNING OF THE PICNIC, SOME CONCESSIONS.  PLEASE COME AND HAVE AN ENJOYABLE EVENING WITH THE VARIOUS MUSICIANS AND ALSO THE GOOD FOOD.  S A T U R D A Y-----help needed to finish the sound systems, dress out the various stands, final preparations—all in the morning—many hands needed, especially from our youth.   MASS IS AT 4:00 P.M, and the picnic is in full swing, weather blessing us!  PRAY FOR GOOD WEATHER ALL THIS WEEK—WE ALL CAN DO THIS!   HELP OUT WHERE YOU SEE HELP IS NEEDED, OR WHEN ASKED, ESPECIALLY IN BINGO!  SUNDAY---PICK-UP, CLEAN-UP, STORE-AWAY—again many hands are needed.  Then we can all go home and rest and thank God for a good picnic.

Next Sunday, from 2:00-3:30 P.M., Baptismal Class in the parish center for those who will be having a child baptized in the near future.

Many thanks to David Kerwin and Lisa McDermott, our custodians, for the great job they did in school, in getting the school cleaned, and the floors so bright and shiny.  Thanks also to Brian Uhl who cleans our parish center and church on a part-time basis, and who recently painted the rest rooms in church.  We have other jobs for Brian this year in the maintenance of our buildings.

The air-conditioner in the church balcony “died”, and will be replaced this week.  Since it was installed in 1980, it has labored well.  New laws have come out about freon in refrigeration systems, and so we have to replace the unit outside, as well as the air-handler inside, and also all of the piping.  We want to do it right so that there are no reasons for it to break down for a long, long time.

NEW ROMAN MISSAL CHANGES COMING  The Adult Education and Liturgy Committee met on July 20th to discuss the changes in the New Roman Missal which becomes effective on November 27th, 2011.  The committees have outlined various activities, including programs, reading materials and informational articles that will ease our transition to the New Mass.  As the weeks go on you will find information in the bulletin, music changes will be introduced each month beginning in September, and each parishioner will receive a pamphlet on September 14th and homilies may include some instruction as well.  Of special interest will be three one-hour sessions in church which will include not only instructions but also a “mock mass.”  These sessions will be held on the 3rd Monday of September, October and November; ie., September 19th, October 17th and November 21st.

Gift Cards  Holy Childhood School sells gift cards at face value for a variety of local retail stores, restaurants and gas stations.  The cards can be given as gifts or used for your own purchases.  Stop by the Gathering Space after mass to purchase gift cards or just to see the cards that we have in stock.  The HCS students, faculty and staff thank you for your support.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

"We need to go to the Lord first, continually and last.

When we are sad, He is our consolation.

When we have no joy, He brings us hope.

When we are weak, He is our strength.

When we are frightened, He is our courage.

He heals us when we need to be healed,

and fills us with all that we need, when we go to Him.

He will not impose His will upon us.

We decide, ourselves, whether or not to be open to the Lord and to all the incredible gifts He gives. "

Visit Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration  every Tuesday following the 8 AM Mass until 7 PM,

and on Saturdays from 9-10 AM.
