FATHER'S TWO CENTS WORTH

By the time you read this bulletin, our Parish Picnic will now be in full progress and the Friday Fish Fry is history.  I want to thank all those who came this week to set up for these two events.  It takes us five days to set up, and five hours to tear it all down and store it away.  To say the least, there is more planning and work in getting ready for this event, than the event itself and the clean-up.  At any rate, thanks to all the young people who came each night, the adults who carried on and saw the work that needed to be done, those who worked Friday and Saturday, and those who clean up, store away the stands, and see that all gets back to its proper place.  I do ask those who clean up to be mindful that we will be using these same materials next year, and hopefully for many years to come.  Haste makes waste!  It also means extra labor the next time around!  At any rate, thanks to all who helped make it a success.  Thanks especially to our picnic chairpersons and stand managers for taking on the responsibilities.

This afternoon, at 2 P.M. we will have a Baptismal Class for those who will be having a child baptized in the near future.  This will take place in the parish center, and should be completed by 3:30 P.M.  It is a good time to renew one’s commitment to being a great parent to the child, and also a greater awareness of your responsibilities to be God’s special parent to the child.  It also reassures us of our special connection to our God, and His Special Divine love for us, and his commitment to help us.

Saturday, there will be a “Make-Up” Blood Drive in our school cafeteria.  Starting time is 9:00 A.M. and will continue until 2 P.M.  I know that it is Labor Day weekend, and many will be wanting to do “their own thing”.  However, accidents happen all the time and blood is constantly needed to help the victims, and also all those who have illnesses that require blood or blood products.  Please! Please! Please, if you can give blood, take the time before you do anything else on Saturday to come and give blood and save a life!  The life you save may be someone very special to you.  Jesus told us to love one another as He has loved us, and to do unto others as we would want them to do for us!  In many ways, we write our own destinies!  What goes around comes around!

Friday is the first Friday of the month, dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.  Try to come to Mass and receive Communion in honor of the great love of Christ for us.

The Serra Club is dedicated to fostering vocations to the Priesthood and to the Religious life from all over the world.  We know that our own diocese is in dire need of vocations to staff the many parishes of our diocese.  We have read in the papers about the new process being initiated to evaluate all of the parishes to see how we can meet the needs of the people with the manpower available.  Next week, on Thursday, September 8th, the Serra Club members are asking all of us to join with them in prayer for vocations.  We ask you to mark your calendar for that day to come to church and pray a rosary or other prayers for vocations. We will be joining with some 20,000 Serrans from 1,160 Serra Clubs in 46 countries on six continents in praying for a more generous response on the part of those men called to the sacred priesthood, as well as for the holiness of our priests and consecrated religious.  Will you take the time for your church?

If we study the history of the Mass we see that many changes in the language have

occurred throughout the ages.

The first complete English translation came to us in 1973.  The English translation, that we have used since Vatican II, has been revised to reflect the current Latin edition.

“By turning attention to the original Latin texts, the Church has raised some unintended fears.  Many Catholics who lived through the era of the Second Vatican Council want

reassurance that its reforms will remain.  They hope that the recent compassionate

outreach to those who prefer the 1962 Mass in Latin does not foreshadow in wholesale withdrawal of the vernacular.  It does not, English is here to stay.  It will be enriched through a reexamination of the original texts in Latin.”

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

"We need to go to the Lord first, continually and last.

When we are sad, He is our consolation.

When we have no joy, He brings us hope.

When we are weak, He is our strength.

When we are frightened, He is our courage.

He heals us when we need to be healed,

and fills us with all that we need, when we go to Him.

He will not impose His will upon us.

We decide, ourselves, whether or not to be open to the Lord and to all the incredible gifts He gives. "

Visit Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration  every Tuesday following the 8 AM Mass until 7 PM,

and on Saturdays from 9-10 AM.

If you would like to commit to a specific hour to pray on Tuesdays,
