FATHER'S TWO CENTS WORTH

Many thanks to those persons who came Thursday evening to pray for vocations. We had about twenty-five persons to show up for our prayer service.  I hate to say it, but the vocation situation is going to get worse before it gets better.  So many feel that it is not their problem, and they have other agendas for their children and themselves.  They often feel that they and the church will get by, since God will not let his church fail.  He won’t let it fail, but that does not mean everywhere.  It is not that He let it fail; it is that we let it fail because it was not important enough for us.  Pray and work for vocations!

The Blood Drive last Saturday brought in 32 units of blood.  Our goal was 25 units, and we had at least five donors leave because their computer went down, and they had to fill out the forms manually.  At the end, some were waiting up to two hours to give blood.  That is real dedication.  It is real dedication to show up and give blood to save someone’s life.  Thanks to all who came and helped make the day a success.

City problems are reaching us now.  We had some sections of copper downspout taken from the Parish Center.  All of our buildings are vulnerable except school which has had the pipes there replaced with PVC about twenty years ago for the same reasons.  That will be our repair process now whenever the copper downspouts are stolen.  We can’t post guards around the place!

Tyler Hoerchler was in a motorcycle accident this past week, Tuesday I think.  He is in St. Louis University Hospital with a broken arm, leg, and serious head injuries.  He was not wearing a helmet.  None of us are immune to accidents.  We need to be prepared.  Pray for a complete and speedy recovery for this young man.

As I said in last week’s bulletin, I will be leaving this Sunday afternoon to go fishing at Kentucky Lake, and will return on Tuesday evening.  It has always been a fun trip in the past, and I hope it will be another one.  I am grateful to a parishioner for arranging this trip and giving of his time.  It ends up a full schedule—early morning till late afternoon.  But the change is good for the soul and the spirit.

This week, with this bulletin, you are receiving a booklet about the changes in the mass that will take place at the start of Advent.  It is a very readable book.  I ask you to take the time to read it, and prepare yourself for this event in the church.  It will also help you to appreciate your mass better.  You will be getting other inserts in the Sundays following.  Fr. Abraham will be giving a talk, one of three, starting on Monday, September 19th, to help us in this time.

Again, I ask your prayers for all of the sick and elderly in our parish.  We have several who have been diagnosed with cancer, and are undergoing treatment.  We also have many who have had cancer, been treated, and are on the “healed” side, but ever cautious.  Pray for one another, and thank God for “the health you think you have.”

If we study the history of the Mass we see that many changes in the language have

occurred throughout the ages.

The first complete English translation came to us in 1973.  The English translation, that we have used since Vatican II, has been revised to reflect the current Latin edition.

“By turning attention to the original Latin texts, the Church has raised some unintended fears.  Many Catholics who lived through the era of the Second Vatican Council

want reassurance that its reforms will remain.

They hope that the recent compassionate outreach

to those who prefer the 1962 Mass in Latin

does not foreshadow a wholesale withdrawal of the vernacular.

It does not! English is here to stay.

It will be enriched through a reexamination of the original texts in Latin.”

There will be a Pampered Chef Open House/Fundraiser next Sunday, September 18th, after both masses to help support Olivia Uptergrove.

A member of our parish, Peggy Kehrer Staley, who is a Pampered Chef sales representative, has graciously volunteered to host an Open House/Fundraiser for the Uptergrove family.  All proceeds, including her entire commission, will be donated to the Uptergrove Family to help with their medical expenses.  The goal is to have a $3,000 fundraiser, which would result in a $900 donation to the family.  Everyone who donates will also be entered in a drawing to win Pampered Chef products.

The Open House will be held in the Parish Center, Sunday, Sept 18th, after both the 8:00 and 10:30 masses.  All new fall/winter Pampered Chef products will be on display, and well as several other Pampered Chef products.  Catalogs will be available; please consider taking a catalog to friends and family who might be interested in helping support this fundraiser.

If you are unable to attend the Open House on Sunday, Sept 18th, orders may also be placed through Peggy's website.  To order through the website:

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

"We need to go to the Lord first, continually and last.

When we are sad, He is our consolation.

When we have no joy, He brings us hope.

When we are weak, He is our strength.

When we are frightened, He is our courage.

He heals us when we need to be healed,

and fills us with all that we need, when we go to Him.

He will not impose His will upon us.

We decide, ourselves, whether or not to be open to the Lord and to all the incredible gifts He gives. "

Visit Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration  every Tuesday following the 8 AM Mass until 7 PM,

and on Saturdays from 9-10 AM.

If you would like to commit to a specific hour to pray on Tuesdays,
