FATHER'S TWO CENTS WORTH

Here we are in the last week of September, and it really is feeling like the Fall season has begun.  This all-day rain on Thursday gives us a good hint to what is coming down the pike.  The rain will be spiked with coldness and it will be penetrating.  But it is the season of the year, looking forward to dying and death, and then to a new life next year, or maybe in eternity.  And really, our life is all about eternity—eternal life in heaven.  The seasons are a reminder that all will pass away, and a new life is down the road.  Let’s hope that we live our lives in such a manner that not all of our hopes and goals are in this world which will pass away, but in the eternal life where we will be united with God in a life of peace and happiness.  Whether we like it or not, night comes, and we look forward to a new day.

This coming Saturday is the first of October, and it is also our day for the Anointing of the Sick and the Elderly.  Mass will be at 9:00 A.M., and we invite the elderly to come and receive this sacred sacrament of God’s tender love to those who are ill and to those who are in their waning years of life, not knowing what is ahead and when death will come.  It does not mean we will die; the sacrament is God reaching to us in another way to show His love for us, and His desire to be with us at this special time in our lives.

Saturday evening, October 1st, the Knights of Columbus will have their Friendship Dinner in Holy Childhood School.  They have been invited to attend mass with us at 5:30 p.m., and to go to the event afterwards.  So if you see some new faces, welcome them, and show them the Holy Childhood spirit of hospitality.  Fr. Hartlein will be saying the mass, since he has to attend the dinner afterwards.  I am told that there will be knights from all over the Belleville Diocese in attendance.

Next Sunday, I will again be leaving to go to Iowa to see my brother.  Since Fr. Abraham has both Sunday masses, I will be scooting out of here on Sunday morning, in order to get up there and spend more time with him.  He seems to be in good health and spirits from our telephone conversations.

I stand corrected about the Tuesday Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.  There is always someone present, and that is one reason that they sign in to show that they were here.  I probably missed someone behind a pillar in the back, and thus made my false assumption.  However, we could have more parishioners taking the time to come and pray before the Blessed Sacrament.  After all, we are preparing for our eternal life.  And we make it what it will be by our lives here on earth—not that we live in church, but that we take time out to be with Christ so that we can know Him, love Him, and serve Him with joy and the security of his presence and help in our present-day lives.

Again, I ask your prayers for all of the sick.  We have several who have advanced stages of cancer, and others with serious injuries and illnesses.  So much is in the hands of God, and we need to show our love for those needing His special care, and our trust in Him.  Pray also for the doctors who have to make the critical decisions and use the special skills to repair and save lives.  Pray for all those who work in the health-care profession, and give them joy and pride in their work and calling.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

"We need to go to the Lord first, continually and last.

When we are sad, He is our consolation.

When we have no joy, He brings us hope.

When we are weak, He is our strength.

When we are frightened, He is our courage.

He heals us when we need to be healed,

and fills us with all that we need, when we go to Him.

He will not impose His will upon us.

We decide, ourselves, whether or not to be open to the Lord and to all the incredible gifts He gives. "

Visit Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration  every Tuesday following the 8 AM Mass until 7 PM,

and on Saturdays from 9-10 AM.

If you would like to commit to a specific hour to pray on Tuesdays,
