FATHER'S TWO CENTS WORTH

As I said in previous weeks, I am leaving to see my brother in Iowa today and will be back Friday evening.  I hope that everything goes well for you this week, and that you are blessed in all ways.  Say your prayers each day and try to come to mass during the week.  It is a great source of God’s blessings, and to live out our purpose in life.  Bless you!

October is the month of the rosary.  As we read in last week’s bulletin, the HCCCW will be having the rosary at 12:30 on the school playground at the flagpole.  In the monthly calendar, we scheduled Rosary and Benediction at 5:30 P.M. on Wednesdays.  We will continue to have that for those who do not come to the noon rosary, and see what happens after that.  There are some who come from work, and others who prefer the evening service.  Mary, help us to do God’s will!

We have flu shots scheduled for Wednesday, October 12, from 9:00 A.M. to 12:00 A.M., in the parish center.  Tom Schneider, from our parish, is scheduling this service for our parishioners who need to get these shots.  We all want to stay healthy and well this winter, and not take any risks.  As the old saying goes:  “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”

I want to thank all of the people who take the time to come to Mass during the week.  The weekday mass is the same Mass that we have on Sunday—the same Jesus who came to us here on earth to save us from our sins, and the same Jesus who took bread and wine at the Last Supper and changed them into His own body and blood.  And it is the same Eucharist (Holy Communion) whether we receive it during the week or on Sunday.  So many feel that they have fulfilled their obligation to God by their Sunday Mass.  In one sense, that is true—you have fulfilled the obligation to keep the third commandment.  But the weekday Mass is not of obligation, but the generosity of Christ to come to us every day we desire, and bless us with his grace.  He wants to be with and in us every day and to strengthen us every day for the trials and challenges that come to us each day.  If we choose not to go to Mass, when we could, with some effort on our part, then we are also choosing to deny ourselves this special blessing from God.  We also deny Jesus His desire to come and take up residence in our soul.  There is no religious activity on our part higher and more efficacious than our attendance at Mass and receiving Eucharist.  We must put our faith into action!

Again, I ask you to be faithful in your support of the parish.  During the summer months, people were traveling and our Sunday collections dipped considerably.  But our operating expenses continued on the same level because salaries continued on the same level.  We were able to give our employees a raise after freezing all salaries for the past two years.  I am asking that if you have been remiss over the summer in supporting the parish as you could have done, to please renew your previous support of the parish.

Again, I ask you to pray for all the sick in our parish, especially all those who have critical and terminal illnesses.  Do for others as you would want them to do for you!

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

"We need to go to the Lord first, continually and last.

When we are sad, He is our consolation.

When we have no joy, He brings us hope.

When we are weak, He is our strength.

When we are frightened, He is our courage.

He heals us when we need to be healed,

and fills us with all that we need, when we go to Him.

He will not impose His will upon us.

We decide, ourselves, whether or not to be open to the Lord and to all the incredible gifts He gives. "

and on Saturdays from 9-10 AM.
