FATHER'S TWO CENTS WORTH

Again, we lose another member of the parish in the person of Cleo Miller.  She was a faithful and wonderful person, dedicated to her church, the practice of her faith, and to her family.  Age was beginning to take its toll on Cleo of late, and it became evident in her inability to get to church, or her slowing down.  She lived a long and blessed life, marred by some tragedies, but always resilient and strong in her faith.  May she rest in peace, and enjoy the rewards that God has in store for those who love Him.

This weekend is dedicated to priests-Priesthood Sunday, when the church all over the world pays special tribute to its priests, and encourages vocations.  As priests, we are grateful that God has given us this call to serve Him and his people.  We are grateful also for the support and prayers that we receive from God’s people—our parishioners and others, that strengthen us and help us to do the work that God wants from all of us.  Many thanks for all that you have done for Fr. Abraham, former priests who have served in this parish and other parishes, and me.  Encourage vocations from among your own family, since it is a market that needs special persons willing to love God and one another.  As scripture says:  “The harvest is great; the laborers are few.  Pray that He send laborers into the field.”

Tuesday is November 1, the Feast of All Saints, and a HOLY DAY OF OBLIGATION, BINDING UNDER PAIN OF SIN.  Our mass schedule will be: 6:30 AM (out by 7:00 AM), 8:00 A.M. (school Mass) and 7:30 P.M. evening Mass.  It is a day when we honor all the saints of all times, even though they might not be officially canonized by the church.  It is a special time to pray to your own patron saint to ask their guidance, help and prayers for your self.  It may be a good time to go to a book of saints to see who your patron saint is, and why the church considered that person to be venerated as a saint, and also inspire us to a holier life.  We all can improve in our love of God and our saint!

Wednesday is the Feast of All Souls, when we remember the deceased members of our family and friends.  There will be only one Mass that day, at 8:00 A.M. school Mass.  We will be remembering all those whose names are in the BOOK OF REMEMBRANCE, in which you have enrolled dear ones, throughout the month of November.

Thursday is the Red Cross Blood Drive, from 2 to 7 P.M.  This is an extra or “special” drive in our schedule to help meet the need for “life-saving” blood.  All those who gave blood at our last drive are eligible time wise, and will be eligible for the drive after Christmas—a couple of days grace on each side—planned that way.  That is why there is no make-up drive.  Please come and give blood, and save a life.  It could be someone you know!

Today, we have the Special (2nd) Collection for the benefit of our Parish Cemetery.  I mentioned it last week in the bulletin.  Make your checks out to the parish.  If you forgot to bring along your gift, put it in an envelope so marked and give it next Sunday or any time during this month.  We want our cemetery to be well-cared for our deceased.  Thanks to all who work on keeping it neat and clean.

Again, please pray for the sick and the elderly persons of our parish, and those who are “shut-in.”  They need our support spiritually as well as physically.  Our Beta Club at school is writing letters to all to let them know that they are not forgotten.  Blessings!

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

"We need to go to the Lord first, continually and last.

When we are sad, He is our consolation.

When we have no joy, He brings us hope.

When we are weak, He is our strength.

When we are frightened, He is our courage.

He heals us when we need to be healed,

and fills us with all that we need, when we go to Him.

He will not impose His will upon us.

We decide, ourselves, whether or not

to be open to the Lord and

to all the incredible gifts He gives. "
