FATHER'S TWO CENTS WORTH
Hello! It is back to Central Saving Time again! I hope that you have set your clocks and are ready to face shorter days for the winter season. It is good for us, even though we might not like the shorter days and longer nights. Of course, it does bear the major holidays of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day—times of great celebration. It also confronts us with the passing of time, slows us down with the weather, and helps us recall our mortality, our sinfulness, and the need of a savior in our lives. Many a “snow-bird” tries to avoid these gifts of the season. However, it also makes us sit back and count our blessings with our families in the warmth of our homes. Pray for those who do not have that warmth, and help those who need so much to survive. Count your blessings! And the greatest of all of these blessings is that Jesus Christ is our Savior.
Our Blood Drive did very well this past Thursday. Eighty-one persons presented themselves officially (I believe more did), and sixty-nine persons were able to give blood. (Our goal was sixty-five persons. We surpassed our goal by four units.) Thanks to all who came and endured the wait. Red Cross sent us eight nurses when the planning sheet called for ten nurses; hence the delay due to staff shortage. Thanks also to all who came to work, and to the Scouts for helping to “load-out.” It was after 8:30 P.M. when we left, and all of the Red Cross Staff still had to go home to St. Louis. It was a long day for them.
Next Sunday, November 13th, there will be a Baptismal Class for those persons who need to have a child baptized. It will be at 2:00 P.M. in the Parish Center and should be over by about 3:30 P.M. No registration is needed! Just be there if you need a baptism soon.
Next Sunday, we ask you to plan to stay a bit after Mass, as we bring the Pastor Planning Program to the whole parish. Our Pastoral Council members will be at each Mass to explain the program, solicit your questions and ask you to evaluate our parish, according to the goals considered necessary for a viable parish over the period of time ahead. It should be an illuminating time to see what our parish has been really about over the years, and what we have been accomplishing. However, we may, in view of some or many could have done better, or we may have done well. But we need your opinion of what we can do for the future for our own parish, and maybe help out neighboring parishes, in view of the shortage of priests, which will only get worse until it gets better. Please plan to help us in this very important evaluation for future planning.
November 16th is the Althoff Banquet at the Shrine of our Lady of Snows. Your pastor is one of the honored to be enrolled in their “Values and Vision,” From Generation to Generation Program for commitment and dedication to Althoff Catholic High School, their years to Catholic education, the Catholic Church, and the Catholic community. I believe there were better choices, but here we are. The next day, Holy Childhood CYO has its own bus-load of youth and chaperones going to the National Catholic Youth Conference, in Indianapolis from Thursday until Sunday. Guess who is going along? The Pastor! Crazy I am! But I will take along my ear protection from the extreme music-Christmas Confessions are coming!
Again, pray for the sick, especially Pat Knoth who has been diagnosed with a terminal cancer, and the many other sick and elderly persons offered in our prayers!
The special collection for our cemetery amounted to $1,731.00. You may still give if you forgot it last Sunday. Many thanks for all your support.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
"We need to go to the Lord first, continually and last. When we are sad, He is our consolation. When we have no joy, He brings us hope.
When we are weak, He is our strength. When we are frightened, He is our courage. He heals us when we need to be healed, and fills us with all that we need, when we go to Him.
He will not impose His will upon us. We decide, ourselves, whether or not to be open to the Lord and to all the incredible gifts He gives. "
Visit Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration every Tuesday following the 8 AM Mass until 7 PM, and on Saturdays from 9-10 AM.
