FATHER'S TWO CENTS WORTH
Golly! It is hard to believe that November is half over, and we have the Feast of Thanksgiving this week. We seem to go from one event to another. For instance this month, we had a blood drive on the 3rd. Then we had Veteran’s Day. Now we are facing Thanksgiving Day. And next week, we begin Advent. Then comes the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, then Christmas, then New Year’s Day. There are still twenty-four hours in each day, as there have always been twenty-four hours in each day. It is a good reminder to all of us how fleeting is life, and how quickly death sneaks up on us. That is why November is a great reminder of our mortality, and our dependence on God. We had another funeral this week, in the person of Robert Bossom, the son of Theresa Cauley. Bobby was only forty-two years old. He had cancer of the throat. He lived away from here in another state. Life was short for him in our standards, but long enough for him to do the job that God had planned him to do. And now God rewards him for his goodness, and from God’s goodness. May he rest in eternal happiness! This Sunday evening, there will be the Ecumenical Thanksgiving Service sponsored by the Mascoutah Ministerial Association. It will take place at St. John’s United Church of Christ. The service begins at 6:00 P.M. It will be a great time to meet members of the other churches, and to pray together in thanksgiving for all the blessings we have received. It is also a good time to remember that we are all children of God, called to give praise to God, and to share our blessings (God’s gifts to us) in response to the command to love one another as God has loved us. Please come and show your faith and represent Holy Childhood Parish. Thursday is Thanksgiving Day. Mass will be at 9:00 A.M. You are encouraged to share the blessing of God in the Eucharist and prayer before sharing the blessing in our homes. All we have comes from God, and we need to come to His table to get the life and strength to live this life is a fruitful way—getting to heaven. The collection on Thanksgiving goes to help the poor and needy. With next Sunday being the First Sunday of Advent, we begin using the New Mass at all of our services. There will be cards in the pews to help us on the prayers and responses. Please leave them in the pews, as they will be needed for some time until we get acquainted to using the new prayers. Also next week, the LITTLE BLUE BOOKS will be available at all of the doors of our church for your Advent spirituality. You are encouraged to take one for yourself, or your family, and to go to it frequently, every day, to learn more about your faith, but also to deepen your faith and your love for God who sends us His Son at Christmas, and in the Eucharist every day. We will also start decorating our church for the Advent Season in preparation for Christmas on Sunday, November 27, at 1:00 P.M. We can use many legs and hands to move the decorations to their proper places, as well as to hang them properly. Adults, we can use your wisdom and guidance! We have several critically ill persons in the parish who need our prayers. Please remember them in your prayers, or say an extra prayer for them. We may be sick ourselves, and not even know it yet. Life and health is not a given, but a treasure to be treasured, and grateful to God for our blessings. Happy Thanksgiving Day!

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
"We need to go to the Lord first, continually and last. When we are sad, He is our consolation. When we have no joy, He brings us hope.
When we are weak, He is our strength. When we are frightened, He is our courage. He heals us when we need to be healed, and fills us with all that we need, when we go to Him.
He will not impose His will upon us. We decide, ourselves, whether or not to be open to the Lord and to all the incredible gifts He gives. "

Today, we take up a collection that helps fight poverty at its roots. For 40 years the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) has provided funding for groups that make lasting change and lift up the poor in the United States. The Collection has helped secure funding for Low income day care centers, legal advocacy to enforce fair wages, programs that emphasize education and affordable housing in low income neighborhoods. Please remember that 25% of our local collection’s proceeds stays here in our diocese to fight poverty in our communities. Fight poverty in America. Defend human dignity. Give to the CCHD Collection.
The Mascoutah Senior Center was founded by the Mascoutah Ministerial Alliance in the 1970’s and has been staffed by volunteers from the Mascoutah churches and organizations since that time. Periodically we need to recruit new volunteers to keep our programs going. This is a time that we need volunteers to help prepare and serve meals at the center. In addition, the position of custodian will be opening. This is a paid position. If anyone is interested in volunteering or applying for custodian, please contact Sandra Hakanson at 566-8758 for an appointment.
