FATHER'S TWO CENTS WORTH
Today, we celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany, the visit of the Magi from the East to the newborn king. We are not sure they were ever kings, or just wise men. That they made the trip on the sign of a new star in the sky shows a faith that was tremendous, and especially when they did not really know what or who to look for. They just followed the star. I doubt if any of us would venture on such a trip without much more assurance. Even the shepherds had the angels to motivate them and give them directions, and the feeling that they had to follow out what was given to them after such an announcement. It really takes faith to follow Jesus, and to live our faith believing that Jesus is the Son of God, that He is God, and that He came to show us the Father and lead us to the Father. We all find many excuses to go our own way! But in the final moments, we all must meet up with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and show how we lived a life of faith. Let’s use this new year to grow in faith, hope, and charity!
This afternoon, we will be taking down the Christmas decorations in church. The Christmas season is over now. At one time, we kept eight days after the Epiphany to celebrate the events of the Christmas Season. We will be needing hands and legs, and able minds and bodies, who will be patient to put everything back where it belongs, and in a kind and gentle manner so that it will be ready and usable for next year. We begin at 1:00 P.M. For those who need church credit hours for Confirmation or other projects, here is a chance to get them in, and not be caught at the last moment.
Next Saturday, there will be a special Memorial Mass for Sister Frances, who passed away in December. There is a special flyer in this week’s bulletin about the mass and the pot-luck luncheon that follows. Sister Frances gave many years to Holy Childhood and touched many lives. We pray that she enjoys the fruits of her labors in heaven. Holy Childhood and all of its parishioners were very dear to her!
I am trying to work out that I can visit my brother next week in Iowa. I did not get to make the trip in December, and it has been since early October that I was with him. I call him almost every night to let him know that he is not forgotten, or shoved off into a home and, as the saying goes, “falls between the cracks in the floor.” So many in our nursing homes and retirement homes seem to be forgotten by family and friends! Even a phone call from any of us brightens up their day, and lets them know that they are remembered.
On Thursday and Friday, I will be having masses at the nursing homes and Silver Creek. I will also be visiting shut-ins, since I could not make it this week, due to retreat. And speaking of the retreat, it has been a very enjoyable time with brother priests, and time for some good prayers and thinking. Its core basic value was the need for faith to follow Christ in order to get to the Father, and to save our souls. It has been showing us how to really follow Christ by seeing Christ in our neighbor and not only in ourselves. But we must also see Christ in ourselves due to our Baptism, and become Christ so that we can become more solidly the presence of Christ to the world, which means putting Christ first in our lives, and not giving him the “left-overs” of our time and efforts!

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
"We need to go to the Lord first, continually and last. When we are sad, He is our consolation. When we have no joy, He brings us hope.
When we are weak, He is our strength. When we are frightened, He is our courage. He heals us when we need to be healed, and fills us with all that we need, when we go to Him.
He will not impose His will upon us. We decide, ourselves, whether or not to be open to the Lord and to all the incredible gifts He gives. "
