FATHER'S TWO CENTS WORTH
The plans are still on the table, and I intend to go to Iowa today (Sunday) and visit with my brother. I will be back on Friday. The mass schedule is in the bulletin, and if you need help, call the rectory, and they will try to take care of your needs.
Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Don Jung who are celebrating their 50th anniversary of marriage. Looking back, I have spent 40 years with them, and remember Don working at Kilian’s repairing equipment when I first met him. Of course, being of a machinery mentality, I was down at Kilian’s shop and yards many times.
We ended up with a small team to take down the Christmas decorations. I know that our 6th and 8th grade girl’s basketball team were playing for the championship in the diocesan tournament, and many were there to cheer them on, but I was hoping more than fourteen would be here to do the job, and two were from Missouri—non parishioners. We had one student helping to make her church service time for Confirmation. (For those in the Confirmation class, I cannot make work when you need it right before Confirmation. You take it when it is available, and when you are needed here at church.)
Our blood drives were both successful, going over our goals. The Thursday drive had a goal of 71 units, and we received 78 units of blood. The Saturday drive (last week-end) had a goal of 31 units and we got credit for 32 units of blood. Many thanks to all who came to help out—giving blood, the scouts for setting up and taking down, the Cornman’s for putting up signs and taking them down, and all of the ladies who helped out with registrations, and working in the “canteen,” or serving refreshments. Know that your help is greatly appreciated, and that you helped save many lives through your cooperation.
Next Monday:, on this anniversary of the Supreme Court decision, ROE v. WADE (1973), we are minded that “as God recognized each of us before we were born, and called us by name, so too may we recognize the value of each human life and pledge ourselves to continue to defend and nurture God’s greatest gift to us”, (1992 Respect Life Manual, National Council of Catholic Bishops). We often think only of the unborn, and this is very important—God’s plan. However, we also need to think of life from the uterus to the grave, ourselves and others. Many of us damage the life God gives each one of us, mentally and physically, socially and psychologically. And we also do that to others around us when we do not respect the gifts of God to everyone. Using others, taking advantage of others, bullying others, hurting others, is destroying the life God has given to that person. You cannot force peace on anyone. You can only win peace through love and respect. Jesus gave us the model when He told us to love one another as He has loved us. Respect the life God has given you, and everyone else!
Again, I ask you to remember the sick, the elderly, the home-bound, and all of those impaired by dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. If any would like to take Communion to the home-bound, please contact Fr. Hartlein. Thanks to those who are already doing this mission of mercy!

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
"We need to go to the Lord first, continually and last. When we are sad, He is our consolation. When we have no joy, He brings us hope.
When we are weak, He is our strength. When we are frightened, He is our courage. He heals us when we need to be healed, and fills us with all that we need, when we go to Him.
He will not impose His will upon us. We decide, ourselves, whether or not to be open to the Lord and to all the incredible gifts He gives. "
Visit Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration every Tuesday following the 8 AM Mass until 7 PM, and on Saturdays from 9-10 AM.
