FATHER'S TWO CENTS WORTH
I am writing this article on Saturday evening before I leave for Iowa. Otherwise, I will not be back home in time to get the article in this week’s bulletin. So I am looking far ahead as I write this. Bear with me!
Many thanks to all who attended the Memorial Mass in honor of Sr. Frances last Saturday. I would estimate that there were about two hundred persons in attendance. It was a very beautiful and fitting tribute to her, her love of God, and her service to the church and Holy Childhood School. I wish to thank Ronda Beck and her helpers who planned the liturgy, and made it happen. Thanks also to the Ensemble for the music, Fr. Flannery for the homily (which he also delivered at the funeral), and Fr. Von Deeke for concelebrating the mass. Many thanks also to the many parishioners who brought in food for the Pot-Luck dinner which followed. It gave the parishioners, former students, and the many acquaintances that Sister had made through TEC and youth programs, the opportunity to say farewell in a very prayerful way.
Say a prayer for Fr. Abraham and his family. From the news reports, his country of Nigeria is in great turmoil in various places. He called and said that he and his mother are safe at the present time. However, with the volatility in other parts of Nigeria, and unrest over the government’s actions, anything could happen. So remember him and his family, and the church as well, in your prayers.
January is speeding by quickly. I hate taking down my Christmas trees in the house, since I enjoy their beauty and bright lights, which symbolize Christ and His love for us. However, even if I keep my trees up until the end of the month, the month is still speeding by. The week of January 29th begins Catholic Schools Week, when we take a good look at the blessings of a Catholic School Education. It is an investment into the future faith and success of children, and made at great sacrifice to many. However, as we work for and want the best for our children, please do not short change their Catholicity.
On Tuesday, January 31st, the Second Grade class will receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation for their first time. I ask the parish to pray for these students, and for their families, that this event will be a very powerful sign of God’s love for his people, and a call for us to come to Him, trust Him, and realize our need for God’s forgiveness.
We are in the process of getting plans drawn up to improve the front entrance to our church. Many people have fallen down on the steps, when they could not get to a railing to protect themselves. The new plans call for a “platform” to extend out in front of the church for about eight feet, to be as wide as the steeple, and then have the steps down to the base level. It will have four sets of railings for safety. The extension of the platform will give a person the opportunity to get to a railing if needed, and will allow all to get a greater sense of presence when they come out the front door. I have received several gifts toward this project. However, I will need to ask for support from the parishioners. This project will remedy the appearance that resulted from the concrete railings failure.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
"We need to go to the Lord first, continually and last. When we are sad, He is our consolation. When we have no joy, He brings us hope.
When we are weak, He is our strength. When we are frightened, He is our courage. He heals us when we need to be healed, and fills us with all that we need, when we go to Him.
He will not impose His will upon us. We decide, ourselves, whether or not to be open to the Lord and to all the incredible gifts He gives. "
